Extended Warranty option

HI All

To make a long story short...LOL
Over the past week my Dad, brother and I have all gotten Jeep Wrangler JK's

Dad's is a 2010 2 door, mine a 2009 2 door, and my brothers is a 2008 Unlimited. (his has to be what I beleive a OME 2-3" lift and 33x11.5R16's, still trying to figure out what size lift???)

We all got them at a JEEP dealer in CT.

Now to my ?, mine is a 2009 that is absolutely spotless, not a nick on it. It does have 35,500 miles on it, so my warranty is at the end. BTW, Dealer does give you the 60 day/6,000 full coverage to start w/ purchase.

The dealer also offered me a Extended warrany (by Portfolio) to cover the powertrain for another 4yrs/48,000 miles for $850.

Should I spend the extra $$$ on the warranty or save it toward the lift, and etc??

My brothers is already lifted so they said they should be able to help w/ most powertrain issues, but of course things like U-Joints, axles, pinion seals, etc may not be covered because of the lift.

Are these Jeeps known for any powertrain issues that may make the $ well spent? I know every case is different, but are any of you experiencing some commom powertrain issues I should be concerned with?

Thanks So much!!
Now the Money Pit of Mods begins...LOL

As far as the 5yr/100K, I was told that part IS NOT transferable to the 2nd owner. Only the 3yr/36K is, and my 09 has 35,500 on it, I do have the dealership 60 day / 6,000 mile warranty for the short term.

Unfortunately a lift will void most of the warranty so I think you should save your money and put it towards a lift.

Yeah, I was just concerned about the major mechanicals of the powertrain. I know stuff like the U-Joints, Bearings, Seal, etc may not be covered.

But like I said I was wondering if there were any known issues that have evolved w/ the JK powertrain that might make it worthwhile.

Thanks

People might disagree but I thing the power train is fairly stable. However, there are lots of other things that can and will break.

Btw.. That is a lot of miles for a 2009..

Thanks

If you seen the Jeep you would understand how easy the miles have been.

I female college instructor used it for transportation. She bought it November of 2008, so technically it is going on 2yrs. So actually 17-18K a year.

Anyhow there is not even on scratch of stone nick on it. Hell underneath is still clean and sparkling...LOL
