Factory half door care and setup

I have searched with no luck of what I'm really looking for so here it goes...

I bought a JKU Sport with factory half doors. I love having the option of pulling off the 2 front upper and putting them in the back / trunk area. I'm currently thinking of the Tuffy Security Trunk for my goodies when I'm out. Will the uppers still fit in the Tuffy trunk?

I'm very hesitant to run them zip down and folded in... don't want to put any scratches on them so it's either out or up with the AC on.. make sense?

Any other thoughts or ideas with the half doors? Or setups with the half doors?

Looks like a great idea, but I'm not certain the uppers would fit in there. It might be worth a call to Quadratec to see.

The 2 fronts will fit. Get towels or something to place between them. Or get a bag to put them in. Without the tuffy you can get all 4 uppers back there.

Darn, so with the Tuffy Security deck all 4 uppers will not fit, that's a bummer, but still better than none I guess. Yeah I have been using a fleece blanket in between them when I have then in the "trunk".

Bob K, not that I don't believe you, but is this from your experience? I do appreciate it!

Any other ideas?

Ran half doors on an '07 JKU for about 4 years. I have ran to trailheads and decided to remove the uppers. All 4 of them. They can all fit in the back standing up or laying flat. How tall is the tuffy deck? I know with a tool box and recovery bag in the back of mine the space for the uppers got tight.

Of late I just dropped the back seats and put them in there.

Just traded the '07JKU for a '14JK.

Say it ain't so Bob! Does the 14 have half doors or did you go with full???

Edit: Oh yeah, and all 4 uppers fit easily in the back. I usually keep a towel in the jeep to place between uppers like Bob mentioned. Doubt all 4 would fit with the security trunk though.

Bob, thank you again.. my 2014 is stock to the core right now, but have been averaging over 20 MPGs which I'm excited about... I know once the mods go that will decrease.

Thanks again!

'Fraid so. The past 18 months or so the need for the 4DR and the half doors actually waned. The kid got her own rig so her and her friends are in a different rig. I did not remove the uppers in that timeframe. I am full doors on the 2DR. I have plans for that though.

I've been playing with a lot of combinations myself. So far I like it with the soft top up, all windows off and door uppers off. I just leave them in the garage...I figure if it rains, it rains...if there's a high chance of rain, I'll just throw them on for the day. I haven't had the rear windows on though since the day I brought it home a month ago. I'm pretty sure I'm getting the Tuffy and the CoverKing neoprene covers next week though, that will make me care a lot less if it rains.

I absolutely love the half doors though. I've pulled them completely off the last three weekends in a row.

Covers for the uppers? That would be handy, didn't even know they were made!

No sorry...misunderstanding.

I'm getting the Neoprene seat covers so I'm not too worried about the rain...

I'm surprised there hasn't been a mention of the mopar half door window storage bag. It has dividers between the uppers, holds all four, and stands upright behind the rear seat. I take the uppers off and pack them in the bag in the spring/summer. Then I can just leave the bag in my garage most of the time, but its easy to throw them all in the jeep at once if it looks like rain. I have had my jeep since last March. Admittedly it hasn't ben out of the garage since the snow started, but the bag keeps the windows together, and not only scratch free, but dust and sand free when we are at the beach. I bought it from Qtech, had free shipping, and love it. The back windows get rolled up in a clover pacth roll as well. So if it really looks like bad weather, or if I am parking away from a garage for a while I can just throw them in as well. Easy Peasy.

2 posts in one day! I must be missing my jeep, but I almost forgot. I also bought and love the rain gear cab cover. When we are on vacation at the beach I can throw it over the cab every night without having to fiddle with the windows at all. It takes two minutes and keeps everything clean, dry and pollen free (nearly) in the spring/summer nights when we are away from a garage for a while.

I'd be interested in both of your posts, I've never seen either! Do you have links of what you purchased? I couldn't really find either.

I live in VA so pollen is a HUGE issue for a good 4-6 weeks during spring!

FWIW I "made" a window bag to hold my soft uppers and all 3 windows for my TJ and for our '12 JK. total cost was about $50 for the TJ and $70 for the JK...10 years time difference. It wouldn't be that hard to add another sheet/ piece of felt for the 2 uppers for the back doors....and maybe another $10?

In the TJ the windows fit behind the seat on top of the spare...back seat removed and sold years ago....in JK it fits behind the back seat.

Any chance you have some pics of your home made window bag? I was certainly thinking of creating our own as well. I assume it must be rather large, but it keeps things together, clean, and scratch free. Probably too large for all 4 uppers to slide in a tuffy security deck, bit I'd like to know if anyone else knows. Thanks!

For years we drove around town in our 99 wrangler with swapped soft doors (our Full hard for his soft).. and when the sun came our (warm enough) the doors would come off and thrown in the back.. thou we didn't have a storage like the tuffy box.. they may get scratched up. Thou I was considering having a friend sew a canvas pack to store our next set of soft doors in the back of the 08.

Sorry to derail this post. Will that rain cover work with a light bar on top of windshield? No lights just bar using it as a kayak rack.
