Factory Service CD or AllData

Those of you who use a factory service manual CD, what do you think about it? Worth the money? AllData users, how do you feel about the info they provide? This'll be my first vehicle where I can't have a paper, hold-in-my-hands service manual. It's going to take some getting used to. Thanks for your help.

Since yours is an 09, it is probably the same format as my 08. I initially had problems viewing it because Adobe walked away from the mechanism that Jeep had used to format the information on. As far as I know there is no way to convert the format over to something more easily used. The good news was the solution was to simply tell the Internet Explorer to revert to the previous version of browser and then I was able to use the manual....but $200.00....ouch. The only reason I got it is because I don't plan on getting rid of the Rubicon until they pry it from my cold dead fingers. I should use that manual a lot between now and then.

On another note, I got the paper one for my YJ and plan to cut the binding off of it and run it through my scanner which will convert it to a searchable pdf file in no time flat. Then I can put the paper manual away for safe keeping. I find it much better when I can print just the pages that I need for a particular procedure and when I get greasy fingerprints on the printed pages, I can re-print them if still needed. And toss the pages after the procedure is done. Very convenient.

I don't know how extensive alldata is but am told that the factory service literature is pretty complete. I'm going with that for now. Who knows what I will think in the future if the factory literature fails me. I doubt that alldata is better. Maybe someone who has used both can chime in.

I use alldata alot for off brand stuff at work but have compared Mopar stuff and it is pretty much identical, alldata is sometimes easier to search through as well IMO. Alldata just takes awhile to update for all the newer vehicles though.

If your more of a picture type person I would probably say go with the factory service cause sometimes alldata doesn't have all the pics in thier system.

One benefit to alldata is they list labor times, so if you need to know how long a certain job should take then you can look it up

Alldata basically just steals the information from the factory manual and changes it just enough that they aren't plagiarizing it. Same with MOD. The one thing I will say for Alldata is that their color wiring diagrams are much better and easier to work with than the factory stuff or MOD.

FWIW, Alldata is free at Autozone.

I toured through the wiring diagrams on my CD yesterday and there is color and they do look adequate for problem solving.
