Factory tint on hardtops?

My JKU has a hardtop. I bought it used and the previous owner put tint on the back windshield and the 4 back windows. I pealed the back windshield film off and that is still tinted from the factory. I went to pull off the film on the back window and as soon as I got the corner pealed I noticed it isn't tinted underneath. From my understanding, factory tint isn't actually a film. It is a darker glass so it can't be removed. Why would by back windshield have tint but the sides don't?

Also, what is the factory tint percentage? The tint the guy put on is much darker than factory. The reason I wanted to pull it all off was because I couldn't see out the back windshield when I was backing up in a parking garage. If need be, I can remove them all and get the 4 back windows done to match the back windshield.

I haven't tried the door window yet but I don't know why the door window would be factory tinted and the hardtop window isn't. But then again I don't know why the back windshield would be tinted and the hardtop windows aren't.

The sides should be tinted the same, and your correct it's a darker glass, not a film. Something like 60%?

I pulled a little amount off the corner. I put my finger over that corner and I could see right through the glass and see my fingerprints on my finger (which wasn't touching the glass). Without pulling it all back, it seems like it isn't tinted at all.

There should be an imprint someone on the glass that has its specs including its tint % look for that

So I just went for it and removed them all. They are tinted. It was weird that the corner didn't look tinted at all.

Tint on factory hard tops is an option "deep tint" that usually costs approx. $300.00 when ordered. Like was said, darker glass. The hard top you have didn't come with factory tint. The passenger, driver's side doors and windshield come tinted as standard. However, the tint is light and complies with 50 state regs.

Didn't you say that you peeled it back and it didn't have tint.

"I went to pull off the film on the back window and as soon as I got the corner pealed I noticed it isn't tinted underneath. From my understanding, factory tint isn't actually a film. It is a darker glass so it can't be removed. Why would by back windshield have tint but the sides don't?"

Then :"So I just went for it and removed them all. They are tinted. It was weird that the corner didn't look tinted at all."

So, then you had tint over a tinted hardtop? OK.
