My state inspection sticker is going to be expired at the end of this month(tomorrow). I tried getting it renew but my guy said I failed inspection. He said did it was the negative battery. I told him that I just put in a AFE CAI last week. WAHH just my luckullinghair: He said to drive on the highway doing 60mph for 10 mins.. You guys think that's enough?
correct. Here with emissions test it will detect it and automatically fail you until the vehicle has completed a certain amount of drive cycles and all monitors are ready.
Sorry AirForceAngler, Aldo, Pressurized, StarBrite. Shouldn't explained it in better detailed from the beginning.. But hey! At least now you guys are awake!
Seems you guys have it covered. They're called readiness codes. If the battery is disconnected the test machine/scanner will show up to 11 codes. They will drop off gradually as you drive. It may take a lot of driving to clear all of them. Several weeks sometimes. Most all are emissions related. Here in Georgia 2000 and older will pass if two are still showing. 2001 and newer you can pass with one still showing.......
You must be in Atlanta. Down here in the real part of the state there is no inspection. I had to put up with state inspections every six months when I lived in Virginia 30 years ago, but if you failed, they would put a red sticker on and you had 30 days to clear it. Happened to me once because of a small hole in the muffler. Put a new muffler on, passed OK.
And to think that "some people" don't think Our Government is too far up our asses in this country.
We Fail an inspection because we disconnected our battery terminal....
I Failed because I had lights that exceeded the maximum height from the ground on my Fj. What did I do? I walked out in front of the 10 mechanics admiring my Lift and suspension, popped the hood, pulled my fuse and said
"Now inspect my F#c&ing truck and let me get the hell out of here"
We have "smog" inspection in my county but NONE of the surrounding counties do because WE ALL know air goes straight up just like back in the day when the non-smoking section was right next to the smoking section in the restaurants because Our Government dumbasses know how to write Laws they just don't know whether to wipe front to back or back to front.
So, I pay $70 for inspection when everybody with one sticker pays $18.
So.... I say "Everybody" that unhooks their battery should be arrested and locked up! We have to get these miscreants OFF our streets! Whats next?
Improper disposal of claybar residue or possibly bellly button lint not being put in the proper recycling bin !!
You're not doing us NY'ers any favors in our argument that it's our speech which is proper....
Anyway, 10 minutes on the highway will not be enough, the vehicle has to cycle through a few start stops and checks once all the functions of the computer and systems are ready to read, it'll take a few days.
I reset my flashpaq to stock right before my inspection not realizing it would erase the DTC's. I had to take a highway drive for a few hours to reset things and get the inspection done. I'll never do that again.
You and me both.. one reason I'm still living here.. do you remember when you could buy a case of beer to pass the state inspection here? Always passed anyhow, but heard the rumor all the time too.. Glad they got rid of our inspections.
I had the same issue in my wife's Mustang. I had replaced the battery due to another issue, and hadn't been driving it (winter time) so when I went to get emissions checked, it wouldn't read and thus I failed. Drove it about 50 miles and retested the next week, no issues.
Here in Louisiana, if you disconnect your battery and clear the vehicles computer, you have to drive at least 100 miles before you can have it inspected. This is to keep people who have a check engine light on from resetting the computer by disconnecting the battery and then driving straight to an inspection station before the check engine light can come back on. This is why the OP got a failed inspection.
My father thought he could get his guy to "let me pass" but it turns out his guy says I have to drive it for 80 miles.. I honestly have no idea how much I've drove so far maybe 50-60 miles the most. My store(where I work) is a few miles so I don't get alot of driving time. my 2012 Jeep only has 10,300 miles on it lol..
Hi. NY state law requires that every car pass safety and emission inspection. It's two different parts of inspection. For first two times inspector don't plug OBD2 in your car and this type of inspection cost just $10. You didn't pass emission because you disconnect battery before inspection and yours Jeep didn't collect same critical date about emission system. To correct this you need drive car like you always do but what time you need for this depend from many things. Nobody can say how long it take for you. From my memory it can take up to couple day.
Inspection machine connect every time directly to Albany server when inspector start to do inspection for yours car. I heard some body can wave this but when i did inspection it was impossible. My advice - don't try to play with this, better wait 2-3 days and repeat emission inspection. What bad - you need pay $37 anyway you pass or not. What good - now you need just pass emission inspection.
I understand it's look crazy but trust me - too much people try to play with emission test when they do inspection. Some try to take off checking engine bulb. Some stupid place black electric tape on this light on dashboard. And smart enough disconnect battery
What was funny when I did inspection for my own car last year. Guy who did try to play with me because my Eclipse was 6 years old and tires have same cracks. I just say to him - OK. I pay for inspection anyway but you print out for me reason why I didn't pass and I show this in DMV office. 5 Minute late he said - I just call to DMV and they said if i don't see metal cord on tire it's mean every thing OK. He is liar because i did exam for my boss to have inspection license and this question was in this test
Same thing happened to me with my emissions. I had disconnected my battery earlier. He told me to drive for about an hour and come back. I did that and everything passed.
As mentioned follow the drive cycle procedure. You can drive on the freeway from one side of the US to the other and it won't clear the codes...you need to do all the funky crap in the drive cycle (just did it for an old truck with a dead battery). Something that really helps is a code reader (you can drive a while and see which codes are still reporting "not ready").
Thanks for the advice guys, I drove it like crazy Saturday and Sunday then parked my Jeep inside my neighbors driveway yesterday night so I wouldn't get a ticket from the meter maid this morning.. The test still shows it's still a no go, but hopefully later when I get gas and full up my tank that should be the final test(data) the computer needs.
Well after driving some more, I still couldn't pass.
Emissions Results Readiness Fail
Monitor Fuel Not Ready
Monitor EVAP Not Ready
Monitor O2 Not Ready
Just need two more then I can pass, but in the meantime I got 10 day temporary Inspection. Makes me wonder.. since I barely drive my Jeep, you think the computer is taking longer on purpose because of me barely driving the jeep. Idk, and RubiconSS.. I have no idea who Billie D is lol.
