I plan on ordering a 2016 Unlimited Sport S today. I got a quote at the dealer last weekend, but haven't negotiated yet. This will be my first new car purchase. Before I start negotiating, does this price look fair to you?
Base Sport $27,695 msrp
+ 23S package $3,200 msrp
+ 3.73 gears $695 msrp
+ Trac-lok limited slip differential $445 msrp
+ Side airbags $495 msrp
+ Destination $995 msrp
= $33,525 total msrp
The dealer gave me a corporate discount bringing the price to $32,243 (plus 7% tax, $75 dealer fee - which was reduced from $299, tag transfer and renewal fee, title fee, and $8.50 lead acid battery fee).
KBB said fair purchase price was $31,979 and true car's estimate was $32,028. What do you guys think I should realistically shoot for?
You should try to get lower. I know from searching myself that from NC down to Florida you really have to haggle for a better price, but it can be done.
Truecar is a nice tool, but only works if the dealers in the area are willing to deal lower prices. Going to VA or Md truecar is around 30-31k for what you want as I've looked. Personally I don't make money that quickly, so taking a day or 2 and driving/flying to get the jeep and driving it back home would my plan. I'm from pa so I'd possibly visiti family first then make the trek back home. For you from me to Florida would be my trip from pa to sc or little longer, but it's a day's drive and easily doable, so if you want to save an extra 1-2k it could be worth it for you.
If you don't mind traveling you can possibly get a lot more off. I was looking for the same as you , but additionally wanted the alpine system as without it the stereo sucks and aftermarket is gonna cost more than the system upgrade from the factory. I opted out of airbags, but since I'll have to order if money is right I might get it, but being a daily driver and my son in the back without air bags I don't feel it being fair. Regardless being your first vehicle I take into account interest and payment when finding what you want as well, obviously we don't know your situation, but having s loan approved going in the door could give you a little more wiggle room and Chrysler doesn't offer good rates. For this reason and to save on cost I'm thinking of going sport now instead of sport s. I've been given numbers for 27-29k without the s package and if you don't mind manual windows installing aftermarket power locks isn't much, just what I'm planning.
If none of this fancies you at least look into traveling an hour or two in terms of negotiating deals with other dealerships and using their quotes to possibly get this current dealer to go down in price. Good luck
Where are you looking in SC? I am in GA (Savannah area) and am in similar boat as you. I also have a young one (5 year old) and the spousal unit wants to get the safest keep possible ( somewhat an oxymoron I know). Anyway, have you been having a decent search in the range you are in?
$33,675 MSRP according to TrueCar
$32,626 Invoice according to TrueCar
$(2,284) 7% off invoice (Tyson's Corner)
$30,342 Negotiate to this price
$2,124 Sales Tax 7% $0 Destination chargeThis should be included in the MSRP
$299 Dealer Fee (you can try to get this down to $75)
$8.50 Lead Acid Battery
A month ago I bought a 2016 Wrangler discounted by $1,825 to $27,750 off an MSRP of $29,575. I think I got a good deal, and the one I bought had the exact options I wanted (no small task). I live in Providence and had to drive to north of Boston (just about 90 minutes) to get the exact model (and best price) that I wanted.
As I stated prior getting a lower price in your area is hard to do. There are a couple of dealerships that I've heard will price match in Florida, but nothing like moons price. Maybe try searching some dealers within a couple hour drive or more and use their quotes to get a match, but otherwise FL sucks for pricing
I placed an order today at Beck Chrysler Jeep Dodge in Palatka. I got a quote from Koon's for comparison. They were only $300 less out the door and 10 hours away, so I went local.
I ordered a granite crystal metallic 2016 Unlimited with a 6 speed manual transmission, 23S package, premium soft top, 3.73 gears, trak-lock rear differential, connectivity group, Sirius, and side airbags (plus delivery).
MSRP was $34,950.
Invoice was $33,731.
TrueCar Great Price Estimate was $33,332.
TrueCar Average Paid was $34,240.
I got it for $32,849 + $695 documentary fee + $2,074.13 tax + $284.50 license and fees for a total of $35,902.63 out the door. I feel like I got a pretty good deal.
Not sure why koons gave you a high number but I've had other dealers in MD/VA that were willing to sell me that same jeep Msrp of $35.4k for a little over 30k. I've since decided on manual windows to save over powered package but that 35k jeep was discounted by abou $4600 or so.
Only thing that is important is that you are happy with the purchase.
