Talking Farewell Wrangler.... Thanks for all the good times....

It's official. Last night I traded in my 2008 Detonator Yellow Wrangler Sport for a 2012 Jeep Liberty Arctic Chill Edition in white. I only had my wrangler for 1 year but got tired of the limited space of the 2 door, less security of the soft top, noisiness on the highway, and the rough drive. I also have a 5'10" growing teenager that doesnt fit in the backseat. The MPG was also a disappointment. I knew going into my purchase what the Wrangler was, I had no illusions. But after a year I couldn't do it anymore. I looked at a JKU, but I didn't love it. I saw a decked out Liberty and test drove it and absolutely love it. I love the sound system and built in GPS, uconnect is awesome, and it's smooth and quiet. I can see using this vehicle on long trips and I can fit all my gear that I carry around. The abominable snowman is also pretty cool and the black rims are sweet!

I'll miss not being able to put the top down and have the wind in my hair. I will really miss waving at all the other wrangler drivers. Thanks to everyone for all the information shared on this board. Keep on Jeepin!

Any plans to off road the liberty? They aren't as good off road as a wrangler but they are in no way a rav4 or crv

The KK is a great vehicle and is all Jeep. You're going to love it. My wife drives an 08 and we are very happy with it.

You wave, I'll wave. You do what you have to do. You WILL be back in a Wrangler at some point. Libertys are not uncool.

Didn't like the JKU? Really? LOVE mine. Would NEVER touch a two door or another SUV type vehicle.

I felt the same with the TJ with soft top as a daily driver. But the JKU is quiet, rides better, much more room, has uconnect, better sound, etc. But I felt the TJ and JK are much more nimble, and miss that a bit. Maybe that is why you didn't like the JKU.

At least you got another Jeep. My in-laws have a KJ and I absolutely hate it. The JKU blows it away in my opinion. I still miss the XJ tho. It was just plain un-American that it was discontinued for the KJ in my opinion. Huge step backwards for Jeep. Almost as bad as tarting up the craptastic Caliber. (Compass)

Liberty is a nice ride. Salesman told me that they are dropping in the 3.6 next year. Actually considered one with the fold back soft top, but the nail in the coffin was those doors just do not come off on a Liberty. Good luck with it.

The KJ was discontinued in 07 and replaced by the KK. They are night and day different.

I would be very surprised if they did that. The Liberty is due for a refresh next year. The 2014 will be a joint venture with Fiat and is expected to have the 3.2 variant of the Pentastar. 2014 Jeep Liberkee: the Italian-American Liberty / Cherokee

X2 on that! He's getting rid of his JK for the same reasons (save for fuel mileage) that I didn't get a JK. Had there not been the JKU, I probably wouldn't have gotten a Jeep.

That looks pretty cool! I wonder if it does as good of a job offroad as it looks like it does!

The Compass is one of the few vehicles in Chrysler's lineup that seem to be pointing in the wrong direction, along with the Chrysler 200, Dodge Caliber, and Jeep Patriot.

I was trying to talk my wife into a Liberty prior to her purchase of her 2012 Subaru Forester 2.5i but she was adamant on another Subaru. Given the crash we'd just been in a month and a half earlier, I can't say I blame her, and quite honestly, I'm happy there's another Subaru in the household.

The Liberty is a fine vehicle and it should be fun!

He has the 2008 JK, so he didn't like the limited space. If he had a hardtop 2012 JKU which has UConnect and other upgrades, experience could have been different.

I have driven my friend's Forester a lot and also rented a Liberty to Death Valley. I will take the Forester which is much more refined and still very capable on dirt and rough road.

He already mentioned in his initial post he didn't love the JKU, took the Liberty for a drive, and loved it. Why buy one vehicle if you like another one more?

I've driven a previous generation Forester 2.5XT and really liked it. That damned thing was QUICK! I haven't been much of a fan of the newest generation but I told my wife we should look at them because they're good vehicles. I'm really surprised how much I like it.

Glad you're still in a Jeep! I debated a Liberty myself but have found the JK to be a perfect fit for me.
If you I'll Just don't be surprised if it takes me a second to wave back. (few liberty owners do)

I had the 08 liberty, it drives exactly like a jku. Nothing like a 2 door. Nonetheless it's still a nice ride. Enjoy.

The most I went off road with the Wrangler was to drive on the lawn to get closer to the front door or to get around the pizza delivery guy who was blocking me in.
