Fat Tires, Wide Stance, No Lift, JK?

Noob here. Any suggestions for 2012 Sahara stock 18" wheels or aftermarket wheels and tires for a squat non-lifted look? I like the appearance of filling the wheel wells with wide thick tires. I don't want wheels less than 16" either.

Any lift I do would be 1.5 to 2" max down the road and just a off-road (not too rough) weekend warrior.

i was told that 275/70/r18, (33") is the biggest and widest you can go on a stock sahara, i'm in the same boat, want the biggest fattest tires without a lift and that's what i was told, no speddo calibration or hub spacers needed.

I know you wanted 16" but here is mine with a 15" wheel. Has a nice wide stance.

You can't put tires much wider than what you've got on your with the stock wheels, unless you buy wheel spacers.

Personally, I'd ditch the 18" rims anyway. You can buy a set of aftermarket wheels in 16", AND new tires, for less than you'll pay for the 18" tires alone.

If you want a wider stance, best bet is to with a lower backspacing number. Your stock wheels have 6.25" backspacing, which is why the wheels are so tight on the Jeep. Generally, for aftermarket wheels you want 4.5" bs or less. The smaller the #, the farther your wheels will stick out from the Jeep.

If you go with 33" tires, you'll need only a simple leveling kit to ensure that you won't get tire rub on the fenders off-road. TeraFlex and Full Traction both make good ones. They'll give you 2" in front and 1" in rear, and are about as simple and hassle-free as you can get.

A 33 will fit nicely,

Aftermarket wheel with 4.5 or less backspacing will be what you need and give the look you want

Just get "the package." 15" Wheel with 33x12.5 Duratracs. Discount Tire will set you up nicely.

I have 17s w/ 4.5 bs and 33X12.5OR coopers that stick out about 2inches. I have the spacer lift but they will work without it. Whole package under 1500 installed and with warranty.

Yup! If it helps with gas mileage, I'm keeping it (even if its only 0.2mpg)! And now that I have 1.25" of lift from the 18/59 springs it doesn't rub.

I keep reading posts on here that replacing the stock rims with smaller ones and new tires is cheaper than just buying new tires for the stock rims. Maybe if you're going brand new at Firestone or something, but brand new stock tires are all over Craigslist for $300 to $500. If you're looking to stay stock you can really take advantage with all the people replacing their rims and tires.

Here's mine, 35's, trimmed fenders, no lift & no rubbing since I flattened the pinch seam, however the Sahara fender trim is tough to pull off and make it look right. I've only seen a few I really like. All this being said, 35s might not be the look you want, but I think you can get them in the 13.5" width, maybe even 14.5.

Anyone else think the wider tires get squirrely on the highway sometimes?

Absolutely, but the stability off road is fair compensation in my book



33X12.5 MT/R's on 15X10 procomp steels. no lift, and if you wheel it like you stole it, you WILL grind your fenders up

Only time it gets squirrelly a bit is when it's windy.

I think if you toe is off, the jeep will wander?
I do have adjustable LCA's though. More positive caster that helps.

Aerodynamics and mpg's hit the fan after lifting and/or bigger tires.
I hardy doubt a piece of plastic helps stability.


Stock= I would keep it.
Lifted/bigger tires = scrap barrel

You can remove the plastic push pins safely without damage.

No lift, 13.5 Iroks on 17" Crager soft 8s. I don't think I have any better pictures on hand but they certainly have that squat look. Stick out just past the stock fenders. (keep in mind this means you will never have a clean jeep lol)

No rubbing around town, but disconnected off road I will probably tear my fenders off sooner or later... Last time out my tread took a couple plastic fasteners off my rears.

Looks like the stock bumper cut down with caps on it and maybe stock fenders cut down.
