finally test drove a wrangler!

Ever since last fall when the wranglers rolled out with the new motor and auto I had been reading reviews and watching feedback. I've been content with my 06 xterra but would much rather drive a smaller convertable 4x4. My wife said the 4 door model would be our only option due to kids so today I snuck to the dealership to see for myself if it was even feasible to put my sons car seat in the rear of a 2 door.

I was immedietley impressed with the fit and finish of just about everything on the wrangler sport. The steering felt nice and tight and the motor was smooth. The seating was a little more cramped than the xterra but not too much so. I went to the passenger side to slide the front seat forward to see how I would install and extract my kid in his car seat and build my argument to the wife for getting a 2 door over the 4 door but my argument was quickly crushed. I could and would put my son back there no matter how contorted I need to get but I couldn't expect the wife to do it.

The 4 door would be much more feasible but I just don't think I can warm up to it. The salesman even drove me in a 4 door crush rubi. Man what a nice jeep. It was almost cruel of him given the rubi is way out of my price range.

So back to fantasy land. I love my xtrerra but one day hopefully before DOT and EPA kill anything fun I'll own a 2 door wrangler.

Have you thought about going used? It might be a way to get into a '12 cheaper.

Give your wife the xterra and buy yourself a Sport S 2-door.

I have a two door and my daughter and I love it. She rides in a car seat in the rear and request to go bumping frequently.

I wouldn't mind buying used down the road but it must be a 2012. My wife drives a rav4 and it has plenty of room but she wants to be able to drive the jeep as well and not have to be a contortionist to get to the car seat.

I bought a new 2012 JK because the prices on used JK/TJ/etc. seemed so outrageous. It was only slightly more money and a heck of a lot easier.

They are outrageous. Its hard enough justifying getting rid of perfectly good and reliable mid size SUV for a small comparatively priced SUV that hopefully is as reliable long term.

Are your kids old enough to climb in back and buckle their car seats? If yes, just pick up a set of car seats and leave them in jeep.

My son is almost 2. I would definetly leave the car seat in but asking my wife to maneuver him in and out of it when she used it would be a stretch. I would make the sacrifice but not her.
