Fired up!

Picking up my "new" 2012 Jeep Wrangler 4D Unlimited Saturday!! I'm 40 years old... This will be the 3rd Jeep I have owned... The first was a 1954 Willys Army Jeep that I had in high school.... Couldn't go more than about 50 miles an hour, but I loved it....changed out the gas tank one summer and found 7 or 8 Korean coins, which was pretty cool! Had to get rid of it when I went off to college, and got a Honda Prelude... My last year in college I bought a used 1987 Jeep Wrangler; that was around 1995... I had a love/hate relationship with that Jeep.... It was definitely the definition of Just Empty Every Pocket! I changed a starter out in the middle of North Alabama at a Texaco, after hitch hiking to a Carquest for a new starter.... Changed a water pump in a Napa parking.... Replaced the alternator, just outside of Memphis - on the road..,, had to get a tow truck on I-20 in Chunky Mississippi at 1:00am after the fan clutch detached and tried to blow a whole through the new radiator I bought a couple of months earlier, while destroying a water hose and belt in its attempt.. Blew out a rear seal on I-55 just South of Grenada, MS on a rainy day, couldn't see all the smoke trailing me because of the rain and locked the motor up as I was pulling in to a rest stop... a new motor and 2 transmissions later I was on the way to work and my love began showing signs of needing another tranny!! I threw in the towel and took her straight to the Ford dealership where she performed flawlessly during the test drive to determine her worthiness of a trade in.... That being said, I left her heartbroken at that cold dealership and headed home in a new 2001 F-150 Supercrew..... and BTW, she and my soon to be wife did not get along... at all! So, I have regretted that day ever since... One day, I hope to find her and bring her back.... But in the mean time, I will take ownership of a new improved version of her majesty.... I will post some pictures when I get it, if anyone wants to see....

I do have a question that I hope someone can answer... The jeep is a one owner vehicle... The owner had a lift installed and 35 inch tires installed by the dealer when it was brand new.... I'm 95% sure that the speedo was not calibrated for the bigger tires... So can anyone tell me an estimate of what the TRUE mileage might be, I'm sure the odometer is not correct. The odometer reads approx 15,000 miles.

Thanks in advance!

By my reckoning, the 2012 would have about 16,200 miles if the original tires were 32"s. If they were 29"s, it'd have about 18,000 actual miles.

I didn't think I'd ever be able to replace my 1942 GPW Military Jeep as far a "Jeep love" goes. But, my 2012 JKU has done it! Smile all day long, just like with the old Jeep! You'll love/hate it just like your '87 YJ!

Welcome aboard and congratulations. We'd love to see some pics. Do you have any of your old Willys too?

How much are they asking for that jeep? You might do better buying new, you never know who did the lift, what gears are in it etc.. Personally I would rather start from scratch and know what I have and what i am getting.

Based on the Kelley Blue Book, it's just below it's recommended price... The dealer installed the lift and tires, they have the receipts for documentation. Car fax looks clean too.

That YJ must have had the carburated 4.2L .... had friends with that engine with tons of problems, that is why both my YJs were 2.5L 4 cyl with fuel injection.... went through a few starters myself, but that was it.... very reliable otherwise!!!!

Nice Jeep!!! Get a Superchips flashcal or AEV procal to correct speed and transmission shift points. You'll be very impressed with the results.

Awesome Jeep! Well done.

Gotta slap your wrist though... cell phones are a no-no at the pump. (albeit mine has never shocked me, so it may be a bs rule)

Yes it did... Never had to change the oil in because it flowed out before it got dirty! LOL!

Thanks, I love it!
