First crash today/ wife hit someone :( took hit well

My jeep's first Crash, it survived pretty well. After cleaing the front factory bumper off tonight. just a few pretty small scratches on the plastic. Was planing on changing the bumper this spring anyway.

Now for the mini-van she hit, (ouch) not so good news ..
Wife was going about 10-15mph in the Jeep... whoopps..

Jeep doesnt look bad at all! The wreck threads I see make me realize that the way these JK/JKU's sit up higher really help and also even though the bumpers are plastic they take impacts really well. Glad your wife is ok did any airbags go off?

The height definitely helped here. I'm impressed about the stock bumper because under that plastic there is hardly anything there to protect the jeep.

Wife and kids were all ok. including the driver and passenger in the mini-van. They stopped abrubtly, and my wife didn't quite stop in time. The Mini-van softened the hit.

I was surprised that the plastic bumper held up that well too, I think the height certainly helped. I will take a better picture tomorrow in the sun.

Imagine what your jeep would have done to that van if you'd had a full steel bumper with stinger.

Seriously..there have been some pics put up of deer shredded by steel jeep bumpers.

Sorry about the accident, that sucks. I hope everybody remained alright. How much did your wife move the minivan? I guess the deceleration was not enough to trip the sensor and fire off the airbags. That said, I figured 10-15 mph would be near the threshold for firing the airbags.

I hope that every involved is okay. Accidents suck. I was rear ended last Monday in my 2013 wrangler. A woman hit my tow hook and rear bumper with a 2000 Plymouth Voyager. The Voyager did not take the accident too well with a damaged bumper, grill, tag bracket, hood. My Jeep was left with a slightly dented rear bumper and a dented tow hook. Even with the plastic bumpers Jeeps seem to hold up pretty well in accidents.

glad everyone and your JKU are okay! as ESP said, we're lucky we're usually the higher vehicle and end up on the better end of things... not so much for the minivan.

glad they wound up okay too.

Thanks everyone.
I am glad no one got hurt to, I got the phone call when it happened. I Called and met the police at the scene ( 2 miles from home ). If I already had purchased a new bumper, I wonder if it would have been better or worse.. ( planning on getting one in the next few months, either the stubby RR XHD, or mid-width LOD )
Having the Jeep sure helped keep the damage very low for us..

I went from an F250 to my Jeep so a little more worried about an accident now. THE F250 could eat a prius or minivan and maybe burp.

At least she hit an import.

I almost hit a deer the other evening in our 3 week old Sahara but I did get to try out the ABS system for the first time and now I know it works well. Missed touching the deer by probably an inch or less.

My digital camera that was sitting in the passenger seat didn't fare very well. It was an old camera anyway and I guess now I have an excuse to buy a new one.

The Jeep bumper went right over the van bumper. Would have been a different story if bumper height was the same. The van took it in a soft spot. The lift gate on any vehicle will cave right in when hit. Lucky she didnt rear end an F250 with a nice stiff trailer hitch.

My previous vehicle was a F-250 with a decent hitch. I got rearended by a older F-150 pretty darn hard, as I got out of my truck all I could picture was a completly trashed rearend, surprise surprise , just a slightly tweaked bumper. The center of his front bumper was shoved beyond the backside of his radiator. I looked at him and said "I'm good" , he said the same, and we both went our about our business. That was F-250 was built like a tank and drove like one too, a road rage'rs dream, lol.

minus the hitch.

^ nice Ford Truck you have. It does pay to be in a truck(much safer),in the event of an accident.

Glad everyone was ok and no real damage to your JK. The worst part of this is yet to come - higher insurance premiums since your wife was at fault in the accident.

UPDATE...
Basically no damage to our Jeep ( light scratches on bumper ) was getting a new bumper this spring anyway.

2011- KIA, Estimate for the other driver was just under $5K !

Cannot imagion if my wife would have been going 30 or 40 mph.. or if I had already purchased my LOD bumper..
