First my head, now my battery, wonder what else will go wrong.

So I've got a 2012 jku sport, had the head replaced a few months back, went 10 days without it, and this morning, go to start it up and nothing. Battery totally dead. Portable booster does nothing have to wake up my roommate and try to jumpstart, nothing. I even let it suit attached to his battery for 20 minutes. Finally broke down, ran to O'rielly, switched it out, started no problem. I'm starting to get a little anxious about what else could go wrong. Only 20k miles, should still be new.

Hate to be bearer of bad news, but Chrysler did not make your battery.

I guess it's too late, but my battery went out about a year ago 2012 JKU, probably similar mileage. It behaved like yours, dead as Hell, couldn't jump. Had it towed to dealer, replaced under warranty and reimbursed for tow. Have no clue what battery warranty is, mine was deemed defective.

honestly I looked it up in the forum and a few guys had mentioned they had bad batteries that just went kaput. That kept new from getting too frustrated and also when I decided to just replace it myself, couldn't sit around waiting for a tow and then the dealership to mess with it all day, just replace it and go.

Sounds just like my story... Battery was shorted inside and would not do anything! Thank god for road side assist... even though I was in the middle of nowhere. They used the GPS in my phone to locate me. It was late on a sunday and I got a battery from Auto Zone. Jeep/Chrysler mailed me a check for it. I fixed my 2012 problems by picking up my 2014 last weekend.

I have often wondered the following:

...with all the after market add-ons such as: winches, lights, and upgraded stereo equip, etc... which run off the battery, should a Jeep owner buy a more powerful battery? It seems easier than s-pods, etc...

I should research this more, but this thread seems like a good place to inquire.?.

when its dead, that's it. call a tow truck and replace the battery.

Need to find a way to get a volt gauge in the dash.

Theres no reason to buy a fancy optima battery for a stock jeep to get more powerp. I have a similar battery to an optima in my jetski...absorbed glass mat sealed battery from another company. Paid twice what a normal powersports battery would cost....so im not saying its not good technology...

Infact, you can get a dual purpose marine battery...good for starting and good as a deep cycle... costs a little more than a regular battery but less than an optima....

But for a stock jeep.....just make sure its made by a brand name. I buy store brand batteries from a local chain usually...deka makes them and i save money not having the deka name on them

A volt gauge wont help. Itll show good voltage when you shut down. Thats how it always happens for me.

Who the hell gets a tow for a dead battery? That costs as much as a battery

I don't drive my vehicles often as I work from home, so both of them are hooked up to Battery Tenders at all times. Seems to help as I've never had a stock battery last less than 5 years, and I only drive into town once a week. And lest you guys think this is a Chrysler/Jeep issue only, I have a 2010 Toyota Tundra and on Tundra forums there are dozens of posts complaining about the oem battery. Not only will it often die in less than two years, it is known to leak acid and corrode the metal beneath it

Batteries are such curious things. No idea if they'll work and for how long from what I've experienced. For instance, the OEM battery was in my Lightning for 8 years without a problem. Since then I've had 2 in the last year with it. As for money = better, the one that went bad was a Die Hard Platinum. Luckily it was under warranty.

I was out of town, " my wife" that's who.
1. advantage for me is the tow was no charge , family member owns company

..update- was up for oil change, local dealer owed me a free one.
told them what happenend, they said it was because of my aftermarket radio/amp etc. "NO" It wouldn't even take a jump, bad cell. ( However, I did get it started and it idled for a while, then no start ) so at least it was just the battery " this time "

so they tested my "brand new" battery and said it looked good, Duh......
I guess just considering I drive my rig around town and combination with the aftermarket amp, 2-1/2" years for factory battery is about it . .. at least this time..

Hold on a sec...

Every battery I've ever had crapped out slowly, with its imminent doom well advertised. Do these new ones go from adequate cranking power to zero?

And even if dead, why can't they be jumped? Once the alternator spools up it should be generating enough power to run the Jeep, yes?
