First Outing In The Snow With My 2012 JKUR

Took my 2 favorite girls (my wife and my pup) for some off-roading last weekend and ended up at the very top of Keystone ski resort. There wasn’t a lot of snow yet but enough to make it fun. It actually did very well on the snow covered trails for a completely stock vehicle. Mods on the way, can’t wait to get back up there with mods installed and a couple feet of snow!

You know what they call a dog looking out the passenger window of a JKU Rubicon, don't you?

- a lucky dog!

Looks like it was a fun outing.
It's trying it's best to snow here in southern New Jersey, but I think I still have a little waiting to do before I get to drive through anything...interesting.

Yeah for sure! Only thing that beats that is a dog in the back of a Jeep with the top off chewing on a 16oz T-Bone steak!

Anyone else have any "snow pics"? Post'em up! From what I heard on the news today you guys in the North East should have some good ones.

Whoa! That's all the snow at the top of Keystone (as of say 10/22)?

They're in trouble. I hope it dumps soon, and often. HPH

Point the vehicle up the mountain, drop her into 4LO, and pedal to the metal. It is a Jeep, after all..

They beat you to it:

first time with my jk in the snow

Thought there'd be more snow in the Rockies by now. Probably means you'll get Biblical amounts in Dec/Jan.

Perfect setting for your Jeep, though.

Yeah, but what a difference a week makes! There's no way we could have done those same trails again this past weekend. Had a few storms last week that I'm sure has them snowed-in until late May/early June of next year.

No sir, you may want to check that thread again. There are no snow pics posted from this season in the other thread. As the saying goes, "post the pics or it didn't happen"

Wow. That's what I get for not checking first...

I stand corrected.

We were doing the "Keystone Gulch" trail (page 66 of "Guide To Colorado Backroads & 4-Wheel-Drive Trails" Third Edition by Charles A. Wells & Matt Peterson. To be honest we took a wrong turn just after way point 4 and ended up at the top of the resort via a service road used to get to the lifts in the summer.

I've been using a handheld Garmin (the Colorado) for nav for many years now but left it at home in favor of the 730n which we had never used prior to this outting. Guess it's time to break out the manual and learn how to use it before our next trip.

Man, lucky you..Alabama hardly ever sees snow and I would love to drive my Jeep in that. So do you turn off ESC and use 4 wheel drive or 2 wheel until you need better traction.?

I'm pretty sure I remember skiing that trail years ago (it sounds very familiar) but I didn't know you could drive it in the summer. Do you have any info on it?
