Sounds like a good start, watch out for water/mud crossings with that filter though.

ESP: Would the addition of a snorkel kit solve that problem? I've been considering doing it (or adding a K & N intake system). The only nervous part of the snorkel kit is cutting the hood...

Advice/Input for this is welcomed!

There huge argument about double-platinum plugs in Wranglers. Several people on the forum have posted problems with these plugs while others say that they work great. Some say it is only the single platinum that are a issue so the debate runs on. I would research more on them before just putting them in.

I can't comment on snorkels but I have several friends that have the K&N filters and keep their stock ones any time we wheel where there might be mud/water. Wait for others on here to chime in about em. In my understanding, a snorkel would prevent water entering into your intake by raising the height of the opening to a much higher point on your Jeep. However, the problem is you have an exposed filter with the K&N allowing water to potentially soak it and cause your engine to over heat on the trail.

Thanks for the reply. I've used these plugs on other vehicles, but this is my first Jeep so I'll search the forums here for other threads on the topic. I appreciate the heads up!

ESP: I'm using the stock air box with a K & N filter inside, replacing the stock filter. I haven't installed an exposed filter _in place of_ the stock air box. Is that what you meant?

Interesting, I thought you couldn't use the stock box with the K&N? Mmm..sorry for the confusion. I think there is still another reason that involves what I was saying though. If MTH comes by this thread soon he'll give you a heads up on it as he is running one too.

ESP: Yep. I went through some conversation with the mech that works on my Jeep at the dealer, a guy at Quadratec, and even a customer service tech at K & N to make sure that the filter would work, since I really like the K & N intake systems (look cool) but wanted to make sure that whatever mod I made could take a bit of abuse. I can look up the part number if you like. The only addition to the stock air box is a sticker that tells whoever looks at it "DON'T THROW THE AIR FILTER AWAY!" - I had this happen to both my motorcycle (a $92.00 filter) and on my old Pathfinder ($89.00). The next idiot that tosses one of mine gets to speak with Mr. Glock.

Rick:
Many of the posts here that I looked through last night seemed to indicate that the single platinum plugs don't agree with the Jeep motors. Although there wasn't much here specific to JK, there were a number of threads in the TJ forum on this topic. I'm still looking around (google, etc) to see if there is a particular reason why a double platinum plug might not be a good fit.
