First Time Jeep Buyer

Hey Everyone,

So as the title states, I am going to be a first time jeep buyer in the next couple days. I have decided that im going to get the 2013 Wrangler Sahara. I've decided that black is the colour for me but am having a hard time trying to decide what to do when it comes to painted/un painted fender flares or body colour hard top or regular hard top. Im pretty set on getting the unpainted flares but am wondering what are some of your opinions on matching it with a painted top?? I wanna still have that Jeep look to it which i think the flares would do but also a little bit more flash to it since you know it is gonna cost me over $30,000 haha. Any opinions or maybe some pros or cons of either would be greatly appreciated.

I think most people are going to say it is personal preference. After all, it is your 30 - 40k you are putting out for the vehicle.

Purists are likely to say they like the non-painted fenders / tops, etc. They will also point out that if you do any hard offroading you are likely to scratch the paint due to wayward branches / rocks / <other things that hit your Jeep>.

I struggled with that decision when I placed my order, but ultimately it comes down to what you want.

hey whats up,
Well, before you spend the extra cash on the colored top or the fender flares, i would ask what you really intend to do with the jeep. If you take it anywhere off road where there is going to be brush, trees, or high grass, then the body color flares are gonna get quite scratched up. The hard top is pretty much up to you since it shouldnt get too thrashed either way...plus the standard color is black so its either matte or gloss. Mines silver on black and am lookin to rhino-line my flares and top as they have taken a beating from the previous owner. I'd honestly save the couple hundred bucks you are gonna spend on the painted parts and get yourself some aftermarket accessories. whether it be wheels, tires, seat covers, suspension parts, grab handles, the list goes on pretty far haha. but thats just my opinion. either way a jeep is more than a vehicle its a way of life so whatever you wanna do with it, enjoy it. If it makes you happy, go for it.
happy Jeeping

If you are getting a Sahara, the flares will be painted black. That is how they come.

You really need to figure out how you are going to use the Jeep first, then go from there.

Perhaps I'm wrong on this but with 13 Sahara you have no choice on fender flare color - they will be painted body color. Sport is black fenders with no option to paint and rubicon is black with option to paint.

for what it is worth I just got a 13 JKu sport - white with black hardtop top (black fenders) and black appearance group - really like it (the tubular black steps are a nice touch).

Whatever you get you will not be disappointed - it is a great ride

pros & cons pretty much remain personal opinion

now 2 1/2 years into a Sahara 08JK, I started out wanting the separate 'black' fenders, but this one came with body-color.

Since it's a pleasing khaki-forest green combo, I've grown very fond of the fenders after all. I've seen just "2" same color Wrangler with black fenders, and they looked at bit odd, as I've become very accustomed to seeing my particular color combo.

We can make whatever we want out of the color scheme. And with very moderate off-roading, yes I have developed a few fender scratches.

As the body shop guy told me, "Hey....it's a JEEP....don't worry about a few scratches".....and he was in the business to make me *want* to have a buffed out perfect paint job.

The little dings & scratches don't amount to much in the overall picture IMHO.

Personally the 'body color-top-fenders' scheme is too much, whatever the color. I've seen some running around. I still prefer the example above, of separate fender/top color from the body. But it ain't MY dime....which do YOU like?

Correct except for the Rubi. You can get painted flares on a Rubi. Since the op is getting black, he will have painted black flares.

so it looks like im stuck with the painted flares for now haha..where I live there is very little places to go offroading within a reasonable distance, so i will be using it mostly on the road. I see alot of them starting to pop up around and notice they all look the same so i will be making some changes once i get mine anyways. Even though i will be using it 99% of the time on the road i still want it to kinda have that original jeep look to it

You can always find black OEM fenders on Craigslist for about $100.00 anyway.
