I have a variety of boat flags that I mount with zip-ties to my cb antenna for trail runs. Boat flags are generally 12x18" so they're the perfect size to run on my Jeep.
Do a search on eBay for boat flags and you'll find a ton of different flag options.

I use GearTies. The rubber coated reusable wire wraps. I've run interstate speeds with no issues. Doesn't always wave all pretty but keeps it respectfully off the tub or cargo area. And it's a boat flag as mentioned above

Considering going big and getting a pole threaded to screw into my hitch where the ball goes. Not sure if it will look good though.

Not sure if you're talking about trail flags or special occasion flags.

Special occasion I have an 8 foot pole with 4x6' flag that attaches with a bungee at the bottom and on the roll bar. Super easy on and off.

Old pic in our old Jeep. I'll have better ones after the 4th.

I have a four foot cb antennae mounted to my ace rear bumper/tire carrier. i went to home depot and cut a pvc pipe to four feet and then drilled 2 holes in the top and two midway down and zip tied the flag to the pole. i can slid it over the antennae and have it on or off in 1 second.

I'll try to take a picture of how I mount the rings to my Firestik CB antenna. They're just two tiny little split rings (like tiny keyrings) maybe half an inch in diameter that I zip-tied with heavy duty zip-ties to the antenna. That way the rings stay on the antenna and I can switch back and forth among my collection of boat flags. I have several. I have Old Glory, an Army flag, a DON'T TREAD ON ME flag, a Conch Republic (Key West) flag, a mug of beer flag, and a Jolly Roger flag. I get them off of eBay anywhere from $10-$20 each. Pay a tiny bit extra for the two-sided flags, they're much better quality.

Look for antenna flags or car dealer flags. They come with a long sleeve that slips over the antenna.

It's more of a special occasion thing. I want to be able to fly my colleges flag at football games, and the stars and bars on special holidays. I want it big and loud and noticeable.

Flag Mounts

I made this mount from several PVC joints and hose clamps. I have a 3 x 5 flag on a PVC pole that I sprayed silver and it screws into the holder. Could have put a plug in the holder to keep rain out but just drilled a small hole in the bottom.

That's a pretty good idea. What size is the PVC pipe? 1/2 inch?

I think it was 3/4 inch. I have a Gobi rack and am thinking of making another one so I can mount a flag on each side. Not sure how the PVC pole would hold up on the road, but it is perfect for parades or trails.

I bought a 2x4 flag with a 4' wooden pole at home depot. I slid the pole between the spare and the tail gate. Then I ratchet strapped the pole to the spare.

Its only a.couple days and its holding up just fine.

Here's a couple of pics.
I bungee the bottom and slide the top into the spiderweb shade:

No flag support needed

Here is mine, this past 4th. Not the best pic of the actually tie up, but I placed the pole behind the spare. I removed the spare cover long enough to tie pole up with some line between the spare rim/tire. Stayed on just fine. loved the placement, got a lot of thumbs up.

I would like a Drive A Flag Hitch Flagpole, but I can't justify the price at $160 + another $8 for a hitch extension to make it past my spare tire. I ended up buying a Camco 51611 Hitch Mount Flagpole Holder for $28 from Amazon, but I couldn't get it delivered in time.

I stole Geronimo1's idea and ziptied my flag to my rear door handle for the 4th. It worked pretty well.

If you have a unlimited jk, Take the rear doors off then put it a large flag pole in the latch where the rear door locks to the body of the jeep,

I liked the "forever wave" brand flags but couldn't bring myself to spend $100 for a set of two of them. I bought two12" x 18" garden flags made by Annin. They are nylon flags with sewn stars on both sides. I ran a piece of scrap metal through their sleeve then used big zip ties to attach them. Cost me around $22 for the whole setup! VERY HAPPY!

I bolted an aluminum pole to my Teraflex hinge and attached a flag to that.

I just lash them to whatever I can, the trail flag is lashed to the stinger and the PVC pipe with hooks zip-tied to it holds the jolly roger, and that's just lashed to the tire carrier.
