Flat Black Door Hinges?

My door hinges suffered this past winter in the salt and crap of NY.

I want to get some new hinges that are flat black but it seems like the only ones I can find are shiny. Do you think I could buy some shiny black ones and RhinoCoat them? Or do you think they would not fit back together right?
Maybe I could even take the hinges off and sand them or strip them of paint then coat them.

I'm thinking (hoping) someone here has done this.

I think quite a few people have Plasti-dipped their hinges.

That stuff's called plasti-dip.... I checked it out and it has the flat black color I'm looking for.

I'm hoping too it will help stop the galvanic corrosion that is occurring.

If it's rusting I would address that first and then plasti-dip.

You could strip them and paint them with POR-15 and top coat them flat black. That should stop any corrosion.

I would like to reuse the current ones. New ones are about 400 for all four doors. I'd rather put that money towards a cargo rack for the summer.

Don't blame you. People swear by the por-15. I've had pretty good luck stripping all the rust off with a wire brush attachment in a drill. Then using Rustoleum Rust Restorer. Once dry, I would then plasti-dip. You will probably have to do each side of the hinge separately else they will stick together and twist the plasti-dip on the first use. Or you could try cutting the seems afterward. I would do them separately myself.

That sounds like a good deal. I think I'll strip them down with a dremel, hit it with some POR15 or triple R then hit it with the plasti dip. Probably cost less than 100 for everything.

plasti dip lasted me about 1 year in northern MN. I plan on using bed liner next time.

I painted mine with rustoleum flat black, looks great and no issues. Por 15 is overkill and plasti-dipping peels
