fog light splicing 2012

Hey all,

I decided to go with teh hela 500 fog lights 12v/55w for my smittybilt bumper. Does anyone have step by step instuctions on how to do the splicing to the factory fog wires?

Are you trying to add to the factory fogs or replace them? Adding would not be recommended. If you're replacing them just cut the connectors and wire it there.

just replacing them, although if possible I would like to be able to switch it back if I decided to switch back to my stock bumper

Lightbulb Careful.............

..... on the 2012, do not splice into the wiring harness. The microprocessors will then cause U BIG problems

If adding new ones go to the battery or if you plan on a number of electrical additions go with a sPOD

Is this the same for 2008s? I spliced into my factory harness and it has been fine for 4 months.

If I get the mopar fog light relocation connectors and splice into them would this be a better idea?

Why not plug into factory fog lights? I added hella 500ff with 35 watt hid kit. Works great had them on for hours at a time and no problems been on for 6 months.

I ran a separate harness, and tapped into the OEM harness for SIGNAL ONLY. Works like a charm, no flickering and no dash lights.

Yes. This way the plug for the factory fog lights stay intact.

From the looks of things I may not have to splice at all if the ends are compatible with the hella 500 fog lamps and the connectors of the mopar fog light relocation wires it might be able to plug and play. If not I will splice the connector. Just going to have to wait and see but it appears similar.

I'm paying attention, because I was going to splice into the factory harness tomorrow. Sounds like I should only splice into the switch, not the power?

Anyone know which color wire that will be?

I completely cut mine off (kept the connector ends in case I want to switch back) and spliced on another set of fogs and I have no issues whatsoever on my 2012 JKU.

I just finished splicing into my harnesses, cut them right off and attached Pilot fog lights. Everything works perfect, right off the steering column. I have a 2012 JKU.

Same here-replaced factory fogs with pilot fogs. Tapped into the factory harness. Works flawlessly.

From my understanding of this, the only time there will be an issue is if the lights that are added require more voltage/amp draw than the factory lights....fwiw

That's what I thought, too. Pretty sure I read on another forum that as long as your aftermarket lights were 12v/55w, they'd be compatible.

Y'all should verify, though, so you don't blow something up.

Wanted to resurrect this thread...

I have some 55w KC fog lights coming. I can't use my factory fogs with my new bumper. I've read completely different answers on whether you can wire 55w aux lights directly off the factory fog wiring of a 2012 JK.

From someone who actually has a 2012 and has wired up 55w aux lights to the factory fog harness direct... does it work or do I need to wire up the relay?

I called KC and they told me to use the relay and drive the relay (white wire) with the original factory positive to the factory fog. There was no need to Install the rocker switch. The fogs are now turned on and off from the factory fog switch on the stalk through the relay.

I'd read elsewhere that the PCM power in the factory wiring would mess with the relay. KC told me they'd never heard of that as a problem. I ran the fogs for a couple hours during a rainy day last Saturday and everything works fine.

So to sum up for 2012 models KC tech support says don't POWER 55w lights direct from the factory fog wiring but use the relay and SWITCH it from the factory wiring.
