I put LED bulbs in my stock fog light housing last year and they work great. Here is a thread that I had started showing what I did. I bought my bulbs on Ebay for about $24.
I used the cheap LED bulbs off EBay last year and haven't been too thrilled.
First, they were never as bright as stock, and second, the small lens on the front of the bulb as literally fallen off both bulbs. The forward facing LED quit working when that lens fell off so I'm left with the reflecting LED's only, and while they function great as a DRL, rather useless for actual illumination
You will probably be happier with the output of a replacement fog light IMO. A replacement fog will cost more but will most likely last way longer than a plug in LED bulb. Many companies are making them now. I chose KC because I really like my headlights from KC.
