Folding Key Fob?

Has anyone tried this type of swap?

(sorry showing up as link, images are screen shots so .png files, maybe that's the issue?)

I found theses on eBay. I am going to order a couple as I hate our current key/fob as it keeps getting hung up in my pocket. They are anywhere from $15 to $30 and you supply the guts and then get the key cut to your vehicle.

Jeep key is actually a weapon! Man, that thing is too long. Groceries in one hand, pull the key out click to unlock, key in same hand to open the door, already scraped the edge of the door doing that, similarly, hoisting groceries in to the passenger side, key in free hand, stick yourself in the arm or hand manouvering the packages.

I just ordered a pair of these. The GMC Terrain I traded in for my Jeep had an almost identical switchblade key an it was so much nicer to carry in my pocket. Can't wait to get this!

I actually had a look of disappointment when my salesman handed me the keys to my new Jeep. I immediately realized I got spoiled by something so insignificant.

That's funny, I also traded in a GMC Terrain for my jeep. I liked the key fab a lot too.

That's funny. I have to say, as much as I love my Jeep, I sure do miss the comfy and super quiet ride of my Terrain.

I traded my Terrain in too last month for my JKU and was disappointed in the key fob... This will definitely be on my long long wish list for the Jeep!

Anybody ordering one, give an update on whether it works with transferring chip, etc when you get it set up! Had the same reaction as Tribefan with the static key, had folding on my last vehicle and I only carry car key (have keypad for home, others to open for work). That thing is dangerous and is gonna stab something in an important area!

I ordered the one off ebay. My daughter has a folding key on her Jetta and it is nicer in the pocket with less chance of poking holes in your pocket.

Good to have a strategy! I keep struggling with what order makes the most sense for modifications. (tho this would be a cheap one...if it works!)

Subscribing. Interested to hear the experiences from everyone who just bought one before I buy one myself.

I'm interested too, but in the 4 button ebay unit instead of the 3 button unit (I also have remote start).

If anybody ordered the 4-button unit, can you use your existing rubber buttons out of your old key? (Instead of the "free replacement buttons" that are advertised to come with the unit).

The reason that I ask is that the pictures for the 4-button unit show the "liftgate open" symbol where my remote start button is. And having just traded in my 3.8L JKU for a 2012 Pentastar JKU, I'd prefer to stay as far away from the minivan references as much as possible.

I wrote and asked, they said you can move your existing buttons over, I'm planning on doing the same.

Excellent. I'm getting tired of stabbing myself with the factory boat-anchor key.

Got mine in today, looks to be of good quality. I took it apart to remove the key part so I can get it cut. Hopefully I can do that tomorrow and report back once I have it all together. Pretty impressed that I ordered it on Friday, and it arrived today after coming cross country (CA to VA).
