Following the Dealers maint. schedule

I was given a pamphlep at the Dealership that listed scheduled maitenance for various items. It begins at 3,000 miles and notes such items as scheduled oil/filter changes, tire rotation. lub, etc etc etc....

I did my first oil/filter out at 1010 miles and am closing in on 4000 miles (in 3 months !eeek ) and will need oil&filter sometime next week.

The recommended schedule sounds to me like a great preventive maitenance plan....just one thing. The cost would be far less at the local shop where I have always had our cars & trucks serviced.

I have the extended warrentee program and plan on keeping this Jeep for a LOOOONG time.

What I'm thinking of is to follow the schedule recommended and have my Jeep service by the old guys (they are damn good and would be far less expensive) and then keep the detailed service printout they give you in a 3 hole note book as record of all recommended service as being performed.

I'm not going to do my own work ( I could but at 65 I just don't want to) besides I really like the guys at the other shop. Any advice?

I don't think it really matters where you get the work done, as long as it's done.

Guys at a shop you know and trust can pour oil and change the filter as well as the dealership mechanics. And if it saves you $$...

I've got an '03 Jeep Liberty with almost 130K miles on it. Hasn't seen the dealership except for 2 recall notices and once when a belt disintegrated about half a mile from their lot.

i get my scheduled maint at the dealers. oil and filter change with fluid fill up @ $20.00. They were good with my Dodge Cummings, Jeep Grand Cherokee, both Jeep Libertys, and both Wranglers. granted i could get service done cheaper elsewhere, but they've been good and fair to us so until it changes, they still have a customer.

Being 65 yrs old isn't the reason for not doing your own maintenance, it's your jeep so you do what you want-

I'm almost 69 yrs old and My 3 yr old JKUR, has never seen a dealer/shop since it was delivered to me-

Course I do quite a few other things to and I've never been called "Average"-

Man, your dealer's a helluva lot cheaper than mine. Got an e-mail coupon from them awhile back...pretty sure it was $40+ for oil & filter.

Parked it in the round file.

c in oz, you are doing the right thing. A long as you can show you kept a scheduled maintenance you should have no problem with the dealer.

If it was the same coupon I got, it was 39.95 for 4 oil changes or @ $10 a change. You can bet I jumped on that. At that price, I can be lazy too.

Since mine is under a Jeep service contract for two years they will only change my oil every 6 months or 8000 miles. Funny...when you are paying for it they want to to change it every 3000 miles. You've got to love corporate math.
