Found a Clean 2007, but have questions

Been looking around for a while trying to learn as much as I can. I found a 2007 Jeep Wrangler X that I've been looking to buy. It has a Magnaflow exhaust (not really sure if its SS). It also has a lift but not sure what type. How can you tell what type of lift is on the Jeep and how many inches of lift it has? Do I measure from the ground to the fender?

The Jeep feels stiff and would like to soften it a little. Can that be done through different shocks? Looks real clean.

Here's a pic.

Buy new! Looks pretty clean. Can you not ask the owner about the lift? Looks like a leveling kit or maybe a budget boost? How good of a deal is it? Have you compared to what you can buy one new for?

That front bumper looks like deep fried ass. I need to put some protectant on mine before that happens!

They're asking $18,900 for a 2007 with 67k? I would find just a few extra thousand (or if you're financing your payment would probably be close to the same) and buy a brand new Jeep with 0 miles. 67k miles is 6-7 years of driving for me. So if you buy new that's 6-7 more years you will be able to keep the Jeep.

hey! they come off the lot like that!

op, find something newer. these things hold their value like crazy with is great for someone who already has one, not so much for you.

$10 says that's a spacer lift. also curious why it has sahara wheels. makes me feel like it had upgraded wheels and tires and probably saw some trails and the previous owner got a new jeep and wanted to keep his nice stuff so he went on craigslist and found that set.

I negotiated the price down to $15.5K. Can't afford new. Is it that bad of a deal? Six year old vehicle w/67K which comes out to about 8K miles per year? Looks clean with no signs of damage underneath.

Is it that bad of a deal?

I was just going to say 15 ish.

Nice jeep.

What shocks are installed ? Are the swaybar links extended ?
A shock upgrade will help the ride a ton. Check out the Rancho 9000 adjustables.

Does it drink oil? I think that is a problem with that year.

Not sure on what shocks are installed. What shocks would you recommend?

Thanks.

Um 67K divided by 6years is over 11000 miles per year. Still a decent deal though.

That sounds like a good deal to me. 67k isn't crazy high. I'm almost at that now and my jeep has plenty of life left

It's hit or miss for all 3.8's. sometimes its the PCV valve. You could always ask the guy about the oil. Maybe ask him for a written guarantee for 2,000 miles that it won't drink more than 3/4 of a quart or something. Every car uses a tiny bit but as long as its under 1/2 a quart over that interval its not too bad

I see that you are in NJ. Was the jeep any where near the shore when Sandy hit? Take a look under the carpets, etc to see if any flood damage.

I see the tag says Baker , are you buying it from Baker in Princeton? If so they are great people. I have my Jeep serviced there and they are very knowledgeable about Wranglers. Their service manager builds some custom Jeeps which they sell at a premium on the lot. I would ask to have them walk you through this Jeep to review the add ons and specifics before buying. good luck.

always forward. PJ

Plus now my JK is not my DD.

Which rear axle does it have? Early 07's had the dana 35... vs the better dana 44.. again if you don't plan to go off road, not a big deal... other wise your looking at big bucks to upgrade. Also for what its worth.. for that same price range if you look around you can get a TJ rubicon model.

Just make sure it's a 4WD model - I believe there were some in the first few years of JK production that were 2WD. Don't get stuck with one of those.

Can you recommend a product for this? I'd like to protect mine too.

Lots of people swear by this stuff:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000XB...goods_img?vs=1

I haven't personally used it, but my door handles are starting to look a little less black so I think I'll be ordering a bottle.

To the OP: sorry for my rude bumper comments. I was just razzin' ya. If you buy that rig, you could probably recondition it with some Back to Black or similar product.

Still, I recommend saving up a little more and buying new. I've bought several vehicles with 65,000+ miles, and while I agree there is plenty of life left, major wear and tear issues tend to start popping up between 60-80k miles. If you can't afford to drop $5-8k more on a new model, you might end up paying even more than that if your rear end poops the bed and your transmission starts slipping. But hey, if around $15k is your absolute max budget, this seems like a decent deal.

Agree. Or at least a used 2012. $21k is around what I paid for my 16,000 mile almost-loaded 2012 via a private sale and new ones were about $6000 more overall (incl all TTL).

This is also good information for OP to consider- If you're buying used, you will also get a better price from private sales than from dealerships. I once bought a VERY clean Dodge Ram 1500 (SLT, with the extended cab AND the bigger 360 ci V8) with 65k miles on it for $6,500 in a private sale. That's 10 cents per mile! Dealer would've tried to charge around $20k for the same rig.

(Disclaimer: this was in the early fall of '08, when big eight cylinder engines were severely devalued because of a gas crisis.)

If that's your mom's jeep, didn't it come with Sahara wheels because it is, in fact, a Sahara?
