freedom top hand screws

from another forum. sounds like good advice. i have read OVER TIGHTENING can cause issues and have read were they have gone thru the top and ruined it!

Ok, I bought a used rubi 08 hard top about 8 months ago. The hardtops never leaked. About a month ago, I noticed the two hand screws on the roll/sound bar seemed loose, almost barely tight. Like I could turn them 3 or 4 full turns before they were good and tight. So I tighten them good and snug. Well, the net time it rained all of a sudden, I had a leak. The leak came from where the two tops come together near the wind screen. It would drip right next to the gear shifter. So I loosened the had screws back to where I could fell they where just pulling down. Then I made 3/4 turn just like an oil filter. The next rain came and it rained for three days. No more leak. I think what happens is when you torque those hand screws down it pulls up on the front portion of the front tops and it allows water to come in.

Just thought I would toss it out there. If you have a leak that is hitting near the shifter, just loosen the hand screws up. When you feel that they have resistance, turn 3/4 tun and see what happens. Just thought I would toss it out there.

I forget to put them all the time.
Matter of fact, they stayed in my center console for 2 months and never a leaked.
I don't think then are important unless you are running the panels by themselves.

I didn't forget mine-- I just set them on a shelf in the garage the second time I took the top off, and left them there!
