Freedom Top Vs. Sunrider top

Which do you like better?

I know you can take off sections with the Freedom top, but is the back piece heavy/hard to get off?

I'd prefer a freedom top.

IV got an 09 and have had the front pieces off several times and use a Dirty Dog sunscreen when the fronts are removed.
Havent considered taking the back off.
Iv been told that the rear portion is more awkard than anything else and should be a two person removal or use a lift.

Removing the back section of the Freedom Top is not that hard to take off, but it is definitely a two person job. It is a bit awkward to carry any significant distance.

Also you probably want to think about where you are going to put that top BEFORE you take it off. Personal experience.

I went to Harbor Freight with a coupon out of one of my 4x4 magazines and got a ATV winch for $49 and built a lift for mine cheap. I drop it down onto a dolly and roll it outside.

I've got a RACOR HD HOIST that hooks right to my hardtop (rack) and lifts right off

Course I've gotta 10' ceiling, so that makes it pretty easy

Harbor Freight is kinda nice,,, and also kinda JUNK too.

I did get a good deal on a Al. low profile rolling jack for like $70. I love it.

I bought a hex tool set,,, and two of the key drivers were all chewed up on the end, unusable. But the 10 peice set only cost like $2.99..

Good idea on the wench you bought!

I would like a couple of wenches...

After all a good wench will get you out of a sticky spot, I wonder if two wenches would be more fun while getting hauled out?

Sorry, I couldn't resist.

To the OP, I like both tops. Each has its purpose. Right now in winter the hard top is on. In the spring, the freedom top front sections will come off when we have warm days. When it gets warm enough, the soft top will go on. Reverse that in the fall.

I have both tops, but have really grown to like the Freedom top best on my JK. The 2 front sections pop off pretty quick and are easy to put back on. I like it in the winter, and it's quieter too. The hard top is a little bit more of a theft deterrant as well!

I've had the whole top off when I had it on the beach in Carolina. My wife and I could handle it just fine, but it does get a little awkward since all of the weight is toward the back!

X2 on the Sun-rider. With the freedom top you don't have the freedom to pull over and drop the top, you can remove and store the front panels if you have room with all your camping gear in the back. You also can't pull over and put it all back (the back section) when it starts pouring rain. With the sun-rider, you pull over, flip the sun-rider open (2 minutes) or put the whole top down (5 minutes), you roll your windows up in the bag strap em on and you're good to go.

I just sold my Freedom Top for a plain Jane softtop. More wind noise, but a whole lot less hassle to remove. And since I plan to move to FL before next winter, I'll be doing that a lot, hopefully Mark W.
