Front Bumpers

Wanted to hear about peoples opinions on front bumpers. I have narrowed it down to the Rugged Ridge Modular XHD:

Rugged Ridge Modular Heavy Duty Bumpers - Quadratec

I like how I can opt not to to have the end caps. Would think that if I wanted 33s it would help in not needing a lift. Plus I would also like to get a winch down the road.

Oooh, good choice. I have this bumper with the pre-runner gaurd. Got it for Christmas...good thing too, 'cause it's a little pricy (my wife must really love me!). I don't have a winch for it yet, but one day will. I absolutly love the bumper though, and thought the original bumper looked terrible. No regrets with it though, it really seems heavy duty, and the gaurd doesn't stick out far.

Anthony!

Same here! I've been looking at replacing my Bumpers as well, and the XHD looks like the Winner. Lotsa variations to this Bumper. I'm wanting to get the Light Base, End Caps, and Hoop (all Black...), and transfer my KC Lights to the Bumper.

DeepSea!

Curious..... how much of a weight difference is there between the Stock Bumpers and XHD Bumpers, Front & Back?

Thanks!

Cheers!

Try 4WheelParts for better pricing though.
I got the front bumper, hoop, XRC8-Comp winch, & rear bumper for $1100 plus tax.

They're heavy enough that you should consider spring upgrades afterward.
Spacers just add height to overloaded springs...

Weight was also a consideration in my case. I wanted a winch, but did not want to put too much extra weight out front. Eventually I may add better shocks, but not while the original ones are serviceable. I did add the winch, but kept the stock bumper for now. If/when that bumper gets beat up I will deal with it.

4WheelParts doesn't show the Rugged Ridge in their lineup...I like your setup though...

I just looked it up and Quadratec is actually cheaper BUT 4wheelparts is having a 10% off sale and I can even pick it up at the store since it isn't too far from my office. So in the end I will save money going with 4wheelparts.

Hilldweller, how did you mount the lights? I am assuming that you got the front bumper with the winch mount.

It is in their lineup...I hadn't seen it originally either. Select the model of your Jeep and then select bumpers. Scroll to the very bottom and it will show all bumpers they carry.

Go to the store to order it. Walk in and say, "I want these items; please impress me with your price..."
Seriously; it works. I think my bumper was $286, the hoop was $50. 4WP controls so much of the Chinese import market that its crazy.

The light mount is from A to Z Fab in PA; nice little company with a good ethic toward customers.

4WP isn't a shop, really. It's a conglomerate.
Do a few googles and see how much they own or control; it's truly astounding.
In fact, they're so all-encompassing, that people walk into 4WP stores with online quotes from other 4WP entities and ask them to beat the price or they'll go to that competitor....

Diamondback Front Bumper Rubicon (textured) Black*230-174 by the Jeep Specialists | Morris 4x4 Center

How is this for a upgrade just to get away from the stock bumper? I would like to find something that leaves the front tires completely open and allows me to keep my stock fog lamps... this is the only thing that comes close for a decent price... what's everyone's opinion on this?

By the time you add stout recovery points to it, you could've bought the Rugged Ridge...

Checkout 4wdparts for OLYMPIC FRONT BUMPERS, they have them in the $200 dollar range

Mine is an OLY, with the fog holes for the lights and it was about $260 bucks

Pretty solid, plenty tire clearance

Thanks for the info Bill! Bummer! Looks like I'm going to have to pass on a Bumper Upgrade at this time. I can't justify having to upgrade the Springs and the heavier Bumpers, just to play around on the Beaches and Off-Road Dirt Trails. I don't plan any Rock or Log Krawlin', just gettin' my feet wet and dirty some.

Any suggestions for a better lookin' Bumper than the Stock POS, but within the same weight range?

Thanks!

Cheers!

The two lightest bumpers that I know of that are actually "upgrades", i.e. functional, are the Aberle Offroad (aluminum beast) and the odd-but-very-functional Poly Performance piece.

Springs aren't a big deal, btw.
