Front License Plate Mount

I've seen this talked about, buy typically around replacement bumpers and/or winches, and how to mount. My question is much more basic. I have to mount it, Missouri requires it. What do most people do, get a 'mounting plate' of some sort, or just screw it right to the bumper. What do you need, just predrill a small hold then use self-tapping screws? thanks

...screwed mine right to the bumper holes...BUT...used a couple of 1/2 inch spacers (nylon) BEHIND the plate to let mud and slop and snow drop out from behind the plate...

...mounted mine using the bottom holes in the plate...so it's up high...snow drifts ya know...

...stainless lag screws too!

If you don't want to drill holes you can try 3M Auto Molding Tape. It is a double sided tape and it is STOUT. I have had the front plate on my z/28 taped up for 7 or 8 years. I had to bend the plate a little to fit the contour of the bumper but it worked well.

There should be dimples in the bumper. Just get stainless steel self tapping license plate screws and attach the plate. Just screw it in. If you want you can get a license plate frame which will help to keep the plate from bending.

Hey fellow Missourite... I just got my '13 (new) and it was already drilled for a plate from the dealer. Toward the bottom of the bumper are two nubs that the bottom of the plate will rest on, and at the top there are dimples as mentioned.

see this thread.

thanks all. I didn't see the dimples up top, but ran screws into the nubs at the bottom, put a small (3" tall) mounting plate up top on the bumper (2 more screws) then screwed the top of the plate to the mounting bracket (2 more screws). I put a clear polycarbonate cover over both plates. Looks very nice. The mounting bracket on the front keeps the top out so it sits more upright and not pressed back against the bumper. Looks better.

I have one (will recall the name soon) but it is a steel one made by a company in Colorado. Don't get that one. It is heavy and tends to work itself out if not fully smashed in. Even then, it deforms the poly/rubber inserts it rests on. I am looking for an Aluminum one.

With my Rubi X bumper I bought the Maximus-3 mount and plate support. When my license plates actually get here.... :-( I will bend this back and mount the plate. For now I have it removed.

I went with the Maximus 3 LIC plate cover bracket and plate .. Joe was fantastic .. Answered all my questions as I have the ever sexy offset MOPAR winch plate .. ( big mistake by me ). So mad I didn't got with the Maximus set up so I have a nice clean centered look. Live and learn....

I love the Maximus-3 hardware. In fact, I am waiting on their front High-Lift jack mount and will buy as soon as it becomes available. Joe mentioned mid-March.

Here is mine with plate holder bent back and plate. Sorry, it is jacked up but you can till see how this looks with a plate.
