ESP123 did this mod on his front bumper. Saw it in person this past Friday and it looked really good. Now I'm considering doing it myself.

So, for those of you who have done this (or who have purchased an after-market stubby bumper), is there a down side?

I guess the other way of asking this is: What's the purpose of the full-width bumper in the first place? Thanks, HPH

Nothing, the stock bumper ends are week and provide no protection. I think it's talked about in that link/thread.

Ah! Interesting. Methods of dropping a few pounds here and there are always useful to note. And this one even looks good! HPH

Looks great. But I'm not sure I'd want to do this to a brand new Jeep. I guess I'll look into it more when I get mine.

Those bumpers are usually the first to go.
I see em plastered all over CL for $50-$100

A sawzall with regular and metal blades, and 30 minutes of your time. Mark twice, cut once.

The curved ends are by VDP
The squared ends are by Rough Country

I couldnt find a front bumper I liked so I went with this for the time being, I actually like the look a lot, not really in a rush now.

Did it to mine with the boxed end ones from RC. I love the look and the install was easy.

Walker-- Is that the (shortened) OEM bumper? (I didn't know you could put a winch on it.) HPH

If you're careful it's a no new parts mod, BTW. Old stock bumpers are available on CL often or you can check the neighborhood dumpster, LOL.

Yes, you can put a winch on the stock bumper if you get a winch mounting plate. Smittybilt makes them, as does Rough Country.

And yes, I did the stubby bumper mod--Kjeeper10 linked to my thread on it earlier, where you can see pictures from beginning to end. Very easy. A sawzall, some chalk or tape to mark where to cut, and a drill is all that's required.

Personally, I'll like the squarer look of the Rough Country caps.
