Front wheel drive?

If your jeep is not in 4 wheel drive, is it in front wheel drive or rear wheel drive?

Thanks,

Steve Thomas

If thats the case then we should fill him on the fact that its going to leak, no matter which top you have, you will get wet carpets at some point in time.

And the 3.8 is hideously underpowered and just wait and order a 2012.

Like someone once mentioned, they had no idea their JK was under powered until they read this board

But yes - noisy, thirsty, bumpy, drafty, leaky and wouldn't have it any other way thank you

They had no idea their 3.8 was underpowered because they've never driven a 4.0L wrangler.

We don't either, it's much easier to clean out the mud that way!

I drove my friends manual trans 4.0 that was regeared with 33" tires. It wasn't that impressive. I still feel that the 3.8 is adequate, it does what I want it to do and goes where I want it to go. Hard top doesn't leak and floors been wet once when same guy spilled my cooler in the back. My hood doesn't even wave at passing semi's.....anymore.

I owned a 4.0 Wrangler for over eight years and I still don't think the 3.8 is underpowered in the JK, whatever that means (pretty subjective term). In fact, given the fact the JK is heavier than the TJ, my educated guess would be that the 4.0 would fare worse than the 3.8 in a JK. Also, my hardtop has never leaked despite repeated exposure to high pressure car washes. Just my two cents.

Edit: I drove a 2.5 Wrangler for six years before owning the 4.0. Now that thing was underpowered.

Like I said, it was. We are not driving SRT Grand Cherokee's, I knew what I was getting into with the 3.8. It's just enough to pull my small trailer and be able to pass cars on the highway.

3.8 is at 205 HP at 5200 RPM and 240 ft lbs of torque at 4000 RPM

4.0 is at 190 hp at 4600 rpm and 230 ft lbs of torque at 3000 RPM

Horsepower and Torque wise, the engines are very similar. The 4.0L wouldn't struggle in a JK...

You have to think about useable power. . The 4.0L has the power at the right spots for a Wrangler.

The only place the 3.8L is superior, is the highway. The numbers don't lie.

I should probably stop arguing about this for the sake of the thread, so I will. Just sharin' some numbers.

I did a google search and people were asking the same question as far back as 2008.

The manual does not say.

I called the dealer service department and they told me that it's rear wheel drive.

A quick peek at your engine and transmission would have told you the same thing.

My 2010 soft top doesn't leak. I actually took it through a touch less wash and with the pressure only had a few drops sneak in around the tailgate

Is there any 4wd from the factory that is Fwd first? Strange question from the OP given the history Jeep has as a 4wd vehlicle and that to my knowledge no vehlicle with 4wd has been Fwd when not engaged into 4x4..

Alot of those crossovers are all wheel drive passed off as four wheel drive. They have an open diff between the front and rear, and try to manage spin with braking at the wheel. Works on pavement, blows in dirt/snow.
