Front windshield opinion

So my 13 JK has received it's first windshield crack Anyway I went to Safelight and they have two options, I could get the OEM with the grill at top center and the small Jeep rock crawling on the lower left or just a plain windshield. I'm not so conserned about the logos on the windshield but I am conserned about the fit. Has anyone replaced there windshield with Safelight and have any issues with the plain one? There is a price difference of $100 after the insurance deductible is made. Thanks for the advice.

Sorry, I can't help you with the cheaper glass. We did use Safelite to replace our windshield, but we went with the OEM.

The reason I am replying is to tell you to look into glass replacement coverage on your jeep. In Florida, it's a state law that they replace cracked windshields for free, no deductible. Here in Texas I added a window glass break option for ~$1.92/year. Glass is fixed, no deductible.

Definitely worth looking into, ESPECIALLY on a wrangler!

I've always made sure windshields are either OEM, or PPG, ask them who produced the windshield they are trying to sell you.

What do you mean "price difference of $100 after the insurance deductible is made?" Insurance, after deductible, should cover an OEM replacement...period. Are they charging you more for the OEM? I call BS on that. Insist on the OEM after deductible.

So with the clear glass it would be $400.59 and the OEM is $535.89, we have a $500 deductible, That being the $100 difference.

Starbrite, I grew up in Florida and wish we were there still, but the Army has us in North Carolina now. But I will definitely look into the windshield option, Thank you for that information.

Oh, I was thinking a much lower deductible. Ours is $100. Basically, you're paying for he windshield. If the $400 windshield is OEM quality without the stickers, go for it. If not, I'd stick with OEM.

I wonder if I can get no deductible coverage through Allstate. They have a once per year per vehicle $100 deductible (just used it on my TJ so I could sell it). I'd prefer "free" and as often as I need it.

Ouch! Sounds awfully high on the price. Had mine done for $260 total with $100 deductible

I would get an oem windshield but not through safelite. That price does seem to be approx. 100.00 higher than I've seen. I would go to a local glass shop for an estimate on an oem windshield.

I deal with windshields on a daily basis and have only had a fit issue on one range rover with aftermarket glass. Just did a 2009 rubicon with aftermarket glass and no issues with the fit at all. I say save your 100 and use it for something else.

You don't have glass coverage on your insurance? I have it on all my vehicles, it is very cheap and will actually pay for itself. If your in the Army, do you have USAA? If not, I would look into having them cover your vehicles, that are awesome to deal with.

I would insist on OEM as well and check with other glass shops for price. Also watch out for a whistle after install. Make sure they will reinstall a new one if not satisfactory. I had a crack and it took 3 windshields to stop the whistle.

It really doesn't matter what windshield you pick, since you will be replacing it in a year or two anyway.

My current windshield cracked this winter on a particularly cold day. I will probably replace it next month to celebrate the Jeeps second birthday. It will be the third windshield.
