frustrated

My Jeep has 28,000 miles on it and now i smell anti freeze and front driver side brake acting up the brake isn't worrying me as much cause thats probably something simple, but the smell i can't find any leaks isn't running hot.. 28,000 miles isn't nothing. No check engine light. i dont abuse it i go to some trails like once a month but nothing serious.

Any advice other than calm down lol

Check around the water pump. Chrysler water pumps are know to have problems. A small leak on a hot motor will give off quite a smell.

I am assuming it is under warranty....so take it to the dealer and play dumb..." I smell anti-freeze." Let them find it. And if they don't take it back in a couple weeks and try again....this gets it documented and will show there is an issue and if it "fails" (whatever it is) might be able to get t fixed even if warranty is up because they didn't fix what is broke now.

Not your job to fix or tell them what it is, just tell them the problem.....good luck!!

What year is it? Auto or manual?

Overflow bottle full? Is the bottle crack? Is the cap on securely?

Have the coolant system pressure tested. That will let you know if you have any leaks.

If the overflow bottle is full, as you said, then the coolant is leaking out the overflow tube when it gets hot and expands inside it. There should be hot and cold marks on the side of the bottle to indicate what the level should be at, depending on the coolant temp.

Where are you located? Probably someone close to you that has experience with brakes or cooling system. Save some $$$ from avoiding the stealership!

There is a vent on the overflow tank, you may have fumes coming from there. I have had an on/off coolant smell with no leaks for awhile. This is second hand advice that I received from other forum members.

A lot of times the lower connections/hoses (more concealed) can hide leaks.

Also, becareful if you ever refill it. Put the same color in whatever you do. Even if the bottle says "safe for every color antifreeze" don't use it. I've filled up a overfill tank that was green with orange, leaked the next day. Had to replace the water pump. Just an FYI.
