Fuel door

While I was at the dealer waiting for them to finish detailing my new Rubi I bought a chrome flip open fuel door from their parts department.

Has anyone installed one of these? It should be pretty straight forward but you never know and it always helps to know the install tricks before you start.

Thanks

I was going to do that and it was a lot of trouble. You have to remove the tail light and do some drilling.
Then I decided it would look better without it since nothing else on my Jeep is chrome.
I'm just not into the gawdy look and its a lot easier to just add gas without it.
I figure it's just one less thing to clean or break off.
I'd rather just gas and go.

It's a 2 hour project once you get your tools gathered up.
Good luck.

I installed the black Mopar fuel door and this was easy to do.. You have to remove the LH tail light ( 4 screws) to get to the inside clamping tab of the filler tube..

I don't like the snow piling up in that fuel filler cavity..that's why I installed this

I looked at the black one as well but since my Rubi is all black I thought the chrome one would maybe help break things up a bit. If it looks cheesy i'll sell it and get the black one.

Glad to hear its a pretty straight forward install.

Thanks

Ok.

Note to self: leave crack pipe alone till after install is completed.

Thanks! Good info to have before I start.

took me 10 minuted to install. taking the 4 screws out of the taillight was the toughest part. So that should tell you how simple it was.

there is some aftermarket company that makes one that is even easier to instal and it has a lock built into it, cant remember which company though, saw it on extreme 4x4, or one of those truck shows on SPIKE tv

I have to say- no chrome! It really doesn't look good on the JK/LK. The black fuel door actually fits on the car- the chrome looks gaudy, and makes it look even more Hummer-esque- we had one on the lot with it for a year and it didn't sell. Removed the fuel door and the rest of the "chrome package" and installed the black appearance group, and we had three people try to buy it in two days- Mark W.

To be honest, I wished it had a natural stainless look not the chrome but with my Rubi being all black I was looking to have some amount of break up. If it looks like sheet or I find a natural brushed finish one I will swap it out.

dupli-color makes this spray that is for anything with a chrome finish, and it basically tints the chrome, so it could be like black chrome, or red, or blue and so on. that might look nifty on a black rubi, if u spray it with the black tint.

Agreed. Jeeps are not suppose to look all spiffy and shiney like that. I installed a all black one on my LJ and I loved it... thought it was also a lockable one since gas was at high and I didn't trust my neighbors.

you could always spray it on and if i doesnt last, u could spray it on again. i think it would be worth the constant re spray, a black exhaust tip would look totally nasty dude
