Lightbulb Full System LED Replacement

Hey folks,

I'm tossing around the idea of replacing headlights and taillights with LED systems. I like the notion the prolonged life, reduced energy consuption and, for lack of a better term, vanity.

For the taillights, I am considering:
Amazon.com: IPCW LED3-420CB Bermuda Black LED Third Brake Light - 1 Piece: Automotive

and

Amazon.com: IPCW LEDT-420CR Ruby Red LED Tail Lamp - Pair: Automotive

or

Amazon.com: IPCW LEDT-420CB Bermuda Black LED Tail Lamp - Pair: Automotive

Headlights tend to be pretty expensive from what I have seen, so I am also weighing the options of Xenon bulbs.

Also, has anyone incorporated LEDs into their interior? (Dome lights or floor runners, etc.) I'd be interested in seeing pictures and hearing stories/reviews.

I am going to wait on the costs to go down for the exterior LED upgrades. I will likely do the Hella or Cibie H4 upgrade with the Philips lamps that seem to be most recommended. I would be interested in knowing what the best LED replacements would be for the interior dome and other lights.

I pretty sure people have had issues with rear tail light. The blinker goes crazy. Relay helps a little but I believe a lot end up sending them back. Might research it more before throwing that much money into something that won't work.

It is an issue with the Jeeps computer system

Now that you mention it, I recall some posts about the blinkers going haywire with LED's, as well.

On passenger side, look for a thin yellow with white strip. NOTE there is a white with yellow strip, that is bigger.

I am going to experiment with the dome lights first. Last night I bought a couple of different LED packs quite inexpensively off Ebay to try out. Among those I bought one that has a warm color temperature to see how it looks in comparison to the colder ones. Then I will experiment with the foot wells and center console areas. I want both of those to be just a light glow with the center being on during driving and foot wells. I think the tricky one will be the center console area and installing the LEDS as discretely and cleanly as possible.

I am told that you can get a special flasher module that is strictly electronic and not thermal when converting to LEDs. Most Trucks, Autos and Jeeps have Thermal flashers. These operate off the heat generated by current flow that cause a thermal bimetallic switch to open when it gets warm and then closes when it cools. Since LEDs do not draw much current the flasher can’t operate properly

I looked at a few of those websites. Has anyone done dash LEDs to backlight the instrument panel? I thinkt he interior in all Red would look pretty awesome, like a friggin jet.

I've done A full led extirior conversion totaling 8 lights which include 4 in the front and one under each door. Everything works very well except the arrows on the dash stay lit when the headlight/parking lights are on. And after a few minutes in that setting the dash board warning beeps start. I've already replaced the turn sig relay with a ep-26 but am having the same issue??
Ideas,??

Krauto is what I used in the dome and liecen plate. I used the 5 SMD 360 for the liecen plate (it's snug but it does fit in there and the difference is night and day. I will up load pics tonight for you. KrautoParts - Premium Auto LED | HID Supplies

Been running the IPCW tail lights and matching brake light for the last 2 months. No issues so far. Yes, they have a resistor board in each tail light.
YMMV.

Jim

I've had issues with cheap LEDs in the dome lamp. Believe it or not, it made the map lights on the underside of the mirror stay on, so be careful what you get.

After some recommendations, I ordered some others from SuperBrightLEDs dot com to see how they compare. They should be here later this week. We'll see.

I've replaced several of my interior lights with blue LED's and I think it's turned out well. I had to have help from a friend who is an electrical engineer in replacing some LED's that were on circuit boards but it was not a problem for him and turned out. The dash on my 2013 is all LED and not bulbs so I haven't taken the time to have my Jeep down that long to have those boards out to replace the LED's. Here on the pics of my map lights changed, floor boards and Dom lights. I also replaced the LED on the rear cup holder light but don't have a pic of that.

There's a one upper in every crowd. Just because I post pics of my one simple bulb swap...

No really though that looks awesome I wish I understood electrical engineering like your friend and had results like yours. Looks good would like to see the cup holder and how you did that one.

Lol I figured I get that reply. The cup holder up front he has now and has had for a bit. He and his coworkers like challenges and are trying to figure out how they can get to the LED then make it water tight again. I'll keep you posted.
