Functional mods/upgrades for the DD

So I picked up mine on New Years Day and its a blast. 2013 JKS Deep Cherry Red. Driving is fun again! Admitingly, my JKS is a DD and some mall crawling. I have no immediate plans for a lift, wheels or tires. I did at one time but the silver Sahara wheels have really grown on me.

Anyway here are some of my practical upgrades (that look good too).

So what functional mod or upgrades have you done or plan to for your DD/mall crawler?

1. Black/red paracord grab handles. Great looking and functional for your passenger oh shit times. About $23 delivered.

2. Antenna X. Looks great. Replaces the long antenna. Now I did lose some of the more distant stations but local stations are fine. No bitch here as I do satellite or iTunes playlists. $16.97 delivered.

3. Mopar door sill guards. Keeps the paint from being scratched and looks like it came from the factory. $28.59 delivered.

4. Mopar fuel door. I would think it keeps the snow and crud out of the well. Of course it looks good too. $87.50 delivered.

I'm also looking into the LoD mid width light weight bumper with bull bar. Function? I think it will serve as an Anti animal/idiot relocation device and will look killer.

Also my Wife is buying me the Mopar slush mats for my birthday to keep all the crap off the carpet.

Anyway. Here is the Antenna X.

The best functional addition yet, although a bit spendy, were front and rear grab handles from Welcome Distributing. Great looking ride!

Looks nice man...

I've added those as well.

Mine is a mall crawling DD, so comfort and security are at the top of my list. I also have no plans on lifting and luckily my JKU came with 4 grab handles.

I've added:
Mopar door seal guards
Mopar slush mats
Mopar fuel door cover
Mopar tail light guards
Plasti dip antenna
Plasti-dip wheels
Gorilla spline wheel locks
Tuffy underseat lockbox
Tuffy rear enclosure (waiting on parts to install)
Rampage locking hood latch
Kicker speaker upgrades
Sylvania Silverstar bulbs
430 RBZ (I ordered a 130)
Stickers and angry eyes (also have a black Jeep hood emblem that I may never put on)
Removed window bumpers on hood

DD items that are still needed:
Headliner (better sound a temp insulation, and will look more finished)
Lockpick and rear camera. (kid on the way....nuff said)
Fire extinguisher
Soft-top or bikini top
Hoist

Thanks! I ordered just under the wire regarding DCR. By about a week or so!

Lights. On the list. Just haven't decided to go LED (Truck Lite) or the Cibies. Leaning towards the Cibies because I live where some snow flies and would like some melt on the lights. In any event, great debate that has been! Yikes!

Thanks! A few I haven't thought about like the Lockpick. Had rear view camera with my Subaru and I loved it. The other is the Gorilla splines. Good stuff.

Looks good! I just painted my antenna black - figured it was the color I was more concerned with, not the height. As for functional, poor lights is truly one of the only complaints I have about the stock Jeep. I'm upgrading mine to LED's in the near future. There are some other small misc. stuff, but lights... I can't stress that enough.

I forgot to add a few things that you might want to consider as well.

Rugged Ridge mesh grill insert.
Pulled the silver bumper covers.
Qtec hitch and harness (if you didn't order a tow package)

I thought about doing that, what did you use to plug up the holes? I don't think I'll be folding down the windshield any time soon.

Those were something that I had on my original list of "must adds". However, I was looking at the Armadillos (no drilling). The issue is that I never heard great reviews on them (the Armadillos)...just so-so. They don't let the door open as wide as they should, they click, and they have to be oiled.

I hate how the door flops around in the wind or on a hill.

Hillman hole plugs from Lowe's. $1.04 for a two pack. They are either 1/2" or 3'8"....I can't remember. Or you can go with UFO's as well....but they are much more expensive.

I bought a smittybilt maglite flashlight holder and mounted it to the roll bar right beside the driver's seat. (just mounts with velcro straps and is rock solid)

That way if I ever need a club for whatever reason I can just reach up and grab my maglite that holds 3 D-sized batteries.

Comes in handy in case I need a flashlight as well.

Wow. Looks great! Would you happen to have the part# handy for the Gorilla Spline Wheel locks? There seems to be a lot of Gorilla product.

Can't say anything about the Armadillos but the Star Fabs work great if you can get past the psychological hangup of drilling four 1 inch holes in a brand new 40K +/- vehicle.

I heard someone say once that it is never truly your Jeep until you drill your first hole in it.

Yup, that is exactly my hang-up.

I....I.....just...can't....do....it.

I evan had serious trouble drilling two 3/16" inch holes in the plastic grill for my mesh grill guard. I kept thinking...why am I drilling holes in a brand new vehicle?

I think I am with you there. Drilling, cutting, no can do because I would say those exact words. "Why I am I drilling holes in a brand new vehicle?"

You just have to ask yourself

Do I have the jeep for resale or is it mine?

In my case, it's mine

Yup....that is what I have.

if you ever plan on changing wheels...get the splines just in case. I think the acorns would look better, and fit the stock wheels better (by being much thicker), but will probably not work with some aftermarket wheels.
