funny story about an idiot friend of mine

A friend that is one of the influences on me purchasing my JK, got his 4" Teraflex lift kit delivered yesterday and I went by his house to look at it last night. He said he was going to put it on today as he had the day off. I called him earlier today and he was mid-process and said the rear went together pretty well.

I called him an hour ago as I was leaving work and went by his house as he was just finishing up the front and about to throw on his new wheels and 37's. So i stop by on my way home and the smart guy that he is put the lift and 37's on INSIDE HIS GARAGE. As I was walking up his driveway and saw the jeep in the garage all I could do was laugh.

When I asked how he as going to get out of the garage, the ear to ear smile he had on his face turned to a face that looked like it had seen a ghost and he just started laughing. We had to let all the air out of his tires and take hit top off and all padding around the roll cage and fold down his windshield to get out of the garage.

So all you guys about to put a lift kit on, DON'T DO IT IN YOUR GARAGE
hahahaha

Could of saved a lot of work by putting his smaller tires back on, provided of course, he has them.
He sure isn't the FIRST to do a lift in their Garage, only to find they couldn't get the Jeep out. A photo would have been "PRICELESS".

Oft times, you can get another several inches of garge door height, by releasing the Garage Door Opener mechanism, and rolling the door up further, then using a block of wood to secure it above the roofline.

With 37s, I'm OK. When I put my 40s on, I have to use this trick.

yeah he laughed for a while. funny thing is, i could see myself getting halfway thru the lift to all of a sudden think "oh shit what did i do" if i hadn't seen him do it first

we tried that but his door had no room to roll up any further. plus when his door is all the way up it's only about 1/2" lower than the door facing so wouldn't have helped very much

I wonder what the average clearance in a garage is? I'm still able to park in my garage, but have a 2.5" lift with 33's.

If I couldn't get into my garage, that might change future plans of lifting higher.
