garbage truck hit me

I was pulled over to the side while he tried to pass on my left on a narrow street. He misjudged and caught my rear fender and bumper. What's this going to cost, anything to watch out for? And what rear bumper should I replace it with?

I bet you can find craigslist takeoffs easily.

Do you by chance have a dozer color jk? Then it would have looked like a garbage truck hit the short bus!

Glad you're not hurt. I sympathize. I had something similar happen.

I have a rear bumper that you can have dirt cheap if you are in NM. Shipping would likely be expensive though if you're somewhere else.

Cost shouldn't matter to you as the other guy is paying. I say take the check and use it for an upgrade.

^^^ agreed

Just food for thought since you git hit hard enough to have further issues.

At a minimum you are looking at:
fender
bumper
fender flare
COMPLETE PAINT JOB. Don't let the City screw you there.

Have a shop check the wheel, tire, & rear axle, as well as an alignment.
Look under the bumper & check the crossmember too.
Put a ratchet to the frame bolts to see if there is any significant difference in the breakaway force that might indicate frame damage.
Look for chipped / flaking paint that would indicate any metal twisting.

Good luck.

To me it looks like it only took the fender off and mashed the bumper. I see no paint damage in that pic.

My vote, if its just the fender and bumper that were hit take the money for upgrades.

It looks like there is a bit of waviness where the hard top meets the body. Maybe that's just where the fender was?

I was concerned about the wavy look as well. After staring at the pic for a year, it looks like his painted hard top causes the illusion. It looks like the fender was just taken clean off.

Estimate at the Jeep dealer was $1600. I can get a pretty new OEM bumper off craigslist for prob $100 and bolt it back on. the only problem are the license plate bracket got yanked out stripping the holes, and the fender of course. No paint damage (but my fender is painted). So I'm thinking I'll do the bumper myself for $100 and have the dealership do the fender and license plate bracket.

How much do you think a non-dealership body shop would charge for the fender replacement/painting as well as the license plate bracket replacement?

I'm guessing to paint a single fender would be around 150?
