Every time I set the gas pump to fill the tank in my jeep it won't automatically register that the tank is full right away and gas spills everywhere on the side of my jeep...not a whole lot of gas but this still is an issue. It seems like the gas pump doesn't sit at the right angle when resting in the jeep's tank, if that makes sense. It's happened to me 3 times because I keep forgetting like a dumb ass.
Any ideas? Is there a sensor perhaps that might be off or missing?
I have had this same issue with my 2009 JKU. I have heard it is covered by a recall and I have been meaning to call my dealer to check.. I have read it could be the filler neck or even the whole tank that requires replacing..
There are many threads on every forum on this. Search "jk fuel overflow". My 2011 started doing this every time I filled up a couple months ago. Last night I installed p/n CNNNX321ac and today I filled up for the first time in awhile without anything being puked back at me.

That is the part number for the extended warranty bulletin x47 reguarding the fuel spit back concern I had installed on my 2007...that fixed mine as well.....interesting that your 2011 had this problem and also fixed in with that part number.....no warranty extension for this problem on 2009 and up.....
Had the same issue. Took mine to the dealer and mentioned the issue and the old TSB. While my 2011 isn't addressed under it they did a few tests and had the part replaced under warranty. I'd ask the dealer about it.
they had an "extended warranty" on some of the fuel filler necks on some of the early ones my 07 got it fixed....if you have fuel spillage when filling due to the pump not shutting off and spilling out id call the dealer and ask if it applies.....its an "extended warranty" not a recall, if you don't report the problem in within the designated period of time then they don't fix it, if you have the problem they'll fix it....cant remember the mileage/time limitations off top of m head but id call before it expires and depending on your in-service date that expiration time varies....the filler neck they install has an additional valve in it....if I remember right, the fuel tank valve failure resulted in the tank not accepting fuel when trying to fill not fuel spillage.....Chrysler has had a fair number of fuel tank issues causing it to no accept fuel across their vehicle lines......trucks, avengers and liberty's don't take gas and nitros, durangos, and wranglers spew it all over when full
If you google it, you can find the service bulletin that calls out the years and serial numbers/build dates that are covered.
They covered it on my 2008 in May of 2015 with over 100,000 miles on it.
FYI- in my case, it was a check valve in the venting side stuck closed, it causes the tank to trap air pressure in the top as it's filling and then burp it back out the filler neck when you stop. Don't know if your issue is the same.
No problems with California and Oregon pumps, which. When the pump shuts off it means it's full, no fooling. My VW takes up to an additional gallon after auto shutoff, the first time.
