Gear/torque failure

About 22 months ago I had a problem with my Gear/Torque that ended up in its replacement/reconstruction. Back then my jeep was 1.5 years old and had made about 30K miles. Yesterday it happened again... My jeep got stuck and the diagnosis is that the gear need to be replaced - again.

My common sense tells me that the gear should not break after 1.5 years of reasonable usage (while performing all the periodic maintenance on the clock etc.). Moreover, its even less reasonable that the gear will fail - again, after 22 months from its last replacement...

Now, I'm not a mechanic and I dont claim to understand a lot about these things... My question is - am i right? or is this a reasonable thing to happen? If I'm right, what can be done apart from paying for the damn thing and hoping it will not happen in the third time? what can be the cause of this?

Note: I don't know if that's important or relevant, but - I live in Israel where the weather is pretty hot, and I travel in the desert parts quite a lot. Maybe it has some impact???
