Gentex/Sony Rear Backup Camera System Kit

Hello all out there!

I am looking to install a backup camera for my 2012 JKU and replace my OEM rearview mirror with Gentex Rearview Mirror with LCD Rear Camera Display

Here is the Gentex GENK332S Autodim Rearview Mirror I am thinking about:
Gentex GENK332S Autodim Rearview Mirror w 3 3" Color LCD Rear Camera Display | eBay

here is the Sony XA-R800C Rearview Reverse Backup Camera:
Sony XA R800C Rearview Reverse Backup Camera Cam w 1 4" CCD Sensor | eBay

Here is the link to Subaru forum when that very setup has been installed on Subaru:
Gentex/Sony Rear Backup Camera System - Subaru Outback - Subaru Outback Forums

Also there is a Mopar Rear Backup Camera Kit with 3.5`` Rear View Bluetooth Mirror Monitor (however as per few places that I called, including Jeep dealer it will not work on Jeep Wrangler as it needs to go through internal computer and computer is not ready for this)
Mopar Rear Backup Camera Kit with 3 5`` Rear View Bluetooth Mirror Monitor | eBay

So, going with the first two links (Gentex GENK332S Autodim Rearview Mirror and Sony XA-R800C Rearview Reverse Backup Camera) is it possible to have that installed on 2012 JKU?

Has anyone installed it??

What head unit do you have? 730, 430 or 130? Have you considered a backup camera via Navtool or Lockpic?

I'm headed in the same direction and today I purchased a Navtool (preferred US company over Chinese) from autotoys.com for $225 shipped...2 cameras from eBay for $20/each....I'm very handy so no need to spend $ in labor, so for less than $300 I will have front/rear cameras controlled from my 430N.....if you're interested I can update later with install/interface/etc.

It would be great if you could post a picture(s)/writeup of the install when you do it. I have the 430 and would want to hook it up to that.

This is what i have. That's why i need to go with the replacement mirror, which is OK as long as it can be connected.

It makes all the sense in the world.....still take a look at Pioneer or Kenwood HUs, you can get one with GPS and camera for $100-150 more than the setup above....food for thought.....I'll hack your posting in a few weeks to add photos and description of my install (if you don't mind) ;-)

I will explore other options. However, not sure if I want to install Pioneer or something that is compatible with other trucks/cars as it may magically disappear one night I park my jeep in the wrong neighborhood.

Especially that I only have softtop!!

BTW, what radios were you thinking about?

I bought a Rydeen mirror two years ago and it has gps also. You can hook up three cameras, bluetooth and it is now auto dimming too i believe. No issues,it was about $400 total with one camera.

At one point I thought about selling the 430N in the forum and buy a top of the line double din Pioneer in eBay, but I 'very much' like the steering wheel controls...plus I found very interesting postings here where folks keep the stock HU and just upgrade speakers and add an amp.....If my Jeep had come with a 130N the story may have been different.

I am also considering 430 (RHB)

here is the link to all Wrangler OEM Radios:
http://www.chrysler.com/en/owners/quality/index.html

I was not too crazy about GPS, but now i may consider it. Also considering 430 (RBZ)
will take it to dealer and ask how much would it be and if possible to install and connect a backup camera as well.

Do you still have your 430N??

I heard the dealer charges an arm and a leg for a 430 or 730....check in eBay

Hey just checkin out the thread...I got my 2013 JK with the 130 headunit in because I figured all along that I'd just replace it anyways. I too like the steering wheel controls, so I found a compromise.

If GPS isn't critical, you can opt for the 430RBZ out of any other Chrysler/Jeep/Dodge product on the cheap, like under $400. If this is the route you like, check out this thread...

Good luck!!

...that's misleading. The unit you opt for needs to be a High Speed Bus, so, not any Chrysler product will work...sorry about that!!!

Yes, this is another route i may and probably go with. The only issues are that the newer changeable to JEEP logo (509s) comes with the blue back light and the older ones (506s) that comes with green back light do not change to JEEP logo.

I have to see a "live Jeep" with the newer Blue back lighting and see how that looks in contrast to everything else backlighting in the jeep in green.

Also, to have camera connected to 430 RBZ i need a lockpick which is another $250.00

The newer ones (509s) 430 RBZ with Blue back lighting in mint condition can be obtained for lest than $350 on ebay.

Thank for your response, it is definitely smarter route to go with the 430 RBZ. The mirror option was the least expensive one.

Still deciding....

will update which way will go, if this thread be still alive..
