There isn't any power to gain from these pentastar engines. Axleback vs catback won't make any difference. Also, they'll never rumble because they aren't meant for that. These are modern passenger car engines afterall, not sports car engines.

Doesn't the catback get rid of the little loop in the stock exhaust? If you have engine problems Chrysler can argue that the loop was vital for exhaust gas scavenging and void your warranty. It'll be your job to file a lawsuit which the majority of people won't.

Just sayin!

So, I went AFE axle back because it tucks the muffler up, gives it a different sound, but is less likely to affect warranty.

Went with the axel back. Kept the stock resonator so there's no drone. No difference in power, less expensive, more agreeable exhaust sound level (my opinion) with the resonator in place. The pluses are tucked up out of the way/out of sight and much lighter.

I've always done cat backs. But in a jeep, it doesn't really matter. I have a cat back dynomax exhaust and I like the fact that it gets rid of all the rusted stock piping and resonator, and it gives you that "real" rumble, but again, monomial gains. But with axle back, you will never get that rumble and it will be more of a toned sound rather than a rumble, deep throaty sound. But it's all preference.

I'm running year round without carpet or drain plugs, so it will be loud regardless.

If I delete the resonator, how much of a difference in sound will it make?

I'm mainly getting this to improve clearance. My resonator has a small dent in it from rock crawling and the exhaust tip was flattened. I had to open it up with a pair of pliers but it still looks like a sandwich.

I went w/the cat back & Y-pipe, but did not get the "down pipe"/loop delete.

That's the first I've seen online that says afe is among the loudest. Most people say the opposite

EEw, I hope you're wrong. I have an afe on the way and was hoping it wouldn't be too obnoxious.

It's annoying, but not too bad. I run the high tuck, I am still happy because I'm not dropping my muffler on stuff every other day.

AFE is not loud. It sounds great. Muted with just enough to let you know and man does that pentastar sound pretty cool under load. One thing to know however, is you have to give it about a week and a half or so to break in. It will change tone and decrease decibels considerably after it's broken in. So don't be too quick to judge. I was close to removing mine, but got too busy and I'm so glad now. Btw, I went with the axle back.

Well, because I'm running without carpet or drainplugs, I'm worried the catback will be too loud as it deletes the resonator.

Pulling trigger on the axleback 49-46219
$220 shipped from autoanything

Read a few posts where people say the catback will give a slight drone/rumble as the resonator is deleted. Since I'm running no carpet/plugs, the drone/rumble will probably be louder

thanks for the tips!

Just installed my cat-back a few days ago. Just a bit too loud right now. Really hoping it mellows out a little like some are saying. If not ill be spending some more money on a resonator.

I installed the axle back a few days ago... It doesn't sound nearly as good as the youtube videos of the catback. I'm considering having an exhaust shop cut off my resonator which will essentially match the catback version.

How did you get it for $220 shipped? Auto Anything has it for $284 shipped now. Did you have a discount or something or was it on sale? Saving $60 would be nice. Thanks

Yeah. They had a sale AND a discount code that took another 10 or 15 percent off. Look online for coupon codes. Good luck!

I have the 2.5 high tuck cat back. I just put it on, last weekend so i have not had it on the highway yet. It is much louder than stock, i really like it. I like loud exhaust though, my tj had a 40 series flowmaster and a gutted cat (for reference). I read on a thread somewhere that someone thought it sounded like a Nissan 350Z. I agree with that, it in no way sounds like a civic with a fart can on it.

Anyone know if I for example I bought the cat back version but just installed the axle back part of it until potentially down the road when I get the Y-pipe to solve clearance issues with my lift? I also wonder if I buy the axle back now if I can buy just the b-pipe later.

I would like to keep it kind of quiet or at least relatively so as I came from a full cat delete 3" exhaust on my Subaru STI and while it was low pitched and not fart can (Cobb Tuning) everyone in my neighborhood knew I was coming home when I was nearly a mile away. I'm trying not to recreate this situation.
