http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fc7V7YPSwyg I love my Jeeps and will keep them. However this off-road truck is really a more capable off road purpose built truck. Jeep should have made the RedRock edition like this. So Mercedes says they will make it available in the USA in 2017. Count me in. Almost 18" ground clearance I think most Jeepers can appreciate its capabilities.
For the expected $200k price tag, you could keep your Jeep, drop in a hemi, install molar portal axles, do whatever else you wanted, and have $100k leftover. It is nice, but hyper expensive, especially for an off-road truck.
Yes thanks for posting. I think it is great that Mercedes has chosen to take advantage of introducing their vehicle in this new space. If they have a successful launch I believe it could trigger Jeep to expand their lineup past the Rubicon trim. Competition is good.
Exactly!!! Instead of bashing the price, People I hope Jeep takes notice. Jeep cannot keep saying they make the most capable off road 4x4 anymore. :winner:
I like how when it is covered in mud you just have to drive it really fast through a semi clean puddle of water and it is looks like it came right off the assembly line. That technology has to be worth the $200K. No JK can do that. 😎
The mercedes comes with a twin turbo v-8 also. People need to look at the whole package. Sure people here can frankenstein something together and say it the same thing. I'm just pointing out that some other 4x4 companies realize there is a market for extremely capable trucks right from the factory with a warranty. I own 3 Jeep Wranglers. I will not sell them. However I would like to buy this truck and I hope Jeep notices this market. They are trying to upgrade the Grand Cherokee to offer the top-of-the line off roader (Summit model). Just trying to share something that I think would leave most Jeeps in the dust.
Sure looks like everything being done in that video can be done can be done in a stock jku sport with the 16in steel wheels or for fans of the forum and those who remember the ultimate 4x4 the toyota tunda lol haha. Not impressed for 200k.
About 20 years ago I was on the verge of buying a used G-wagen that seemed overpriced at $8000. My buddy had a pending divorce to pay off and his pet 4x4 was up for grabs.
I drove it around for a couple days; it was a pretty basic model; still there were some fabulous features. At the time it was of considerable off-road advantage with an impressive running gear, powered by an impeccable OVC MB 6 cylinder.
Built for the mega wealthy, no need to take that kind of cash into the mud and water. But if you got it enjoy it. I know I was researching this thing months ago when pictures started leaking. It's on my top list of vehicle to own. But now that my jeep build is under the knife, I found a few shops in USA that rebuild defenders and can do just what this g does
I'm only slowly becoming more familiar with automotive technical specs (coming from absolutely no knowledge at all), but why are these so insanely expensive?
1). Because they are made overseas (you pay more for american over there)
2). It's a brand that is seen as an image (wealth) people want (why?, I don't know), It's a "new" money thing.
3). People are stupid enough to pay for it so they can charge it.
Sad thing is it (the brand) breaks as much or more then any american (or any other country) vehicle and usually cost two to three times as much to fix or maintain.
