Getting ready to regear to 4.10's.

So, you can see from my sig that I have went with the Teraflex 2.5" coil and shock lift. I went to 33" Duratracs on stock 17" wheels with 1.25" USA Alloy hubcentric spacers. Front track bar, exhaust spacer kit with resonator removed and stainless straight pipe into rugged ridge stainless split dual exhaust system. I removed my back seat and of course threw in a K&N filter.
Next up is the regear! I have the Auto trans. with the stock 3.21 gears. They were fine with the stock tire size, and still aren't THAT bad...but I'm a speed guy. I like a little more jump and pull off the line. I'm going back to Elias 4WD in Townsend in a couple weeks for a retorque of my wheel and lift components, and while I'm there I'm going to have a limited slip installed with 4.10's. Based on the good amount of highway driving I do, limited offroading and my want for just some more jump from a standstill and in the 0-60 range, we decided that ratio would be best for me. Plus, I have no intentions of going bigger than 33" tires. I can't wait to feel the difference from my 3.21's!

It has to do with area but I had a very good shop do my yukon 4:88's and it was more like between $1500 and $1600 or there about. I had a front locker installed and gusset the axles with a front armor diff cover all done at the same time and it all came to $2600 including tax.

I sent an email for a estimate to CT Axle.

No idea what they charge now.

If you are going to go to the expense of regearing I would'nt stop at the 4.10's, I would atleast go to 4.56's.

I've got a 09 2dr Rubicon W/AT trans stock 4.10's and 255-80/17's BFG KM2 which are a narrow 33.5in tall tire. They are lighter and roll easier than your Duratracs and I can rarely use OD. The new 2012 motor has alot more power and it certainly wouldn't take much because the 3.8 is a POS but if you're going to regear I wouldn't waste my time with 4.10's.

Just something to think about.

Elias, where OP is going, is a good shop. I had them do my ZJ lift. Fair price and wont do any unnecessary work unless you tell them. I had an issue that some stupid local dealer told me was maybe track bar related (some steering clunk) and would run me $1000 to fix. I brought it to Elias and he said no f'in way, its something else and fixed it for like $300. If youre in NE CT, then make the trip up there to Townsend. Im in Westford MA, so luckily he's only like two towns over from me

I have NO ADVICE for the gears to be used on a 2012 jeep--BUT

Before you spend 1200 to 2000 bucks for a REPUTABLE shop work, you better do your homework on the GEAR RATIO you want, because it's an EXPENSIVE miostake--if you wanna change--

I would NEVER trust a $999 deal on both axles/gear change--

My job for both axles cost about $1700 bucks/with warranty and done by a race shop-

We hated homework in school, but you better doit now !!

Good luck !

I would generally agree with this. But I have seen this special offered by two highly regarded shops, so I would have no problem doing it through them. If it was just some random offroad shop offering the special, I would defintely be a little leary. But the two shops I have seen with this special relatively recently, Northridge and Off Road Evolution, are two of the best in the biz.

I will definitely agree about the gear ratio though. I would have a hard time justifying only going to 4.10s.

evo is a pretty well known place, especially if you frequent some of the other JK sites. its also a promo price they have going on. that being said, I would probably agree; i've heard folks in some areas being able to get regearing for 1200 or so, but 1500 seems to be the average price.

except here in new england, where offering 3k wont even get you in the next day!

The figure $999, covers WHAT??

If thats YUKON/w full Master install kits/brgs/fluids/labor/warranty--I still wouldn't haveit done !

But maybe you know the people/shops-whatever !

Actually, no clue what it includes, so I see your point. Says gears and "complete installation", but no idea what their interpretation of "complete" is.

Keep me posted on how it goes. I have a 12 JK that I've been looking to put a small lift on and go to 33's. I also do mostly highway driving with the occasional offroad experience. I'm real interested in how the stock tires w/3.21 stacks up against 33 tires w/4.11.

It must cover the cheapest gears they can find because the better gears and installation kits are gonna cost near a thousand dollars so that would mean they are doing the installation for nuthin.
We know they're not gonna work for nuthin...

It only says new gears - nothing about all of the other components. Maybe they reuse the other stuff?

I love my 4.88's with 33's in my TJ. Now before you scream that I have a TJ and you have a JK, the 4.0 produces more TQ down low compared to the penstar. i have 35's now and will be working on 5.13's soon. So like someone else said above about doing your homework I think you should look more into it. I bet you will be going deeper that 4.10's when said and done.

Thank u all for the replies and some good suggestions on different ratios, etc...
If u r anywhere near MA I definitely recommend Elias 4WD. They r very knowledgeable and very fair from what I've heard and seen. They are also very helpful with any questions u have, and will even offer their opinion on what is probably best for u, but will do whatever u want done, no questions asked.
I contemplated everything from 3.73's to 4.56's. Elias and I decided to go with 4.10's based on my certainty that I'm going to stay with 33's, my good amount of long highway drives, scarce recreational offroading, and the fact that I have a lightweight Jeep(2DR and no backseat). We also took the new engine and tranny into account, and the fact that I was happy with the 3.21's prior to the lift and tire size change.
I haven't got emailed an official estimate yet. Should have it by Monday. I believe we r going with Motive gears and with the limited slip and install, and I already have the Procal to set changes...total should be 2000-2400 depending on the actual price of limited slip set up. Closer to 1800-2000 for just the gears. Lockers added would have brought it to 3000ish. I'll keep u posted on an official price and component list soon as I know!

Anything would have been better in my TJ.
The 3.07's would have got the jeep going any tire size. I suffered on the highway with only 31's

Your 4.10's are a stock ratio with the 4 cyl.

Can you go bigger? Yes/no
Will a bigger tire fit?
Does the jeep feel underpowered acceleration from a stop/highway
passing?

Was quoted $1700 w/ USA gears.

So..... Are they (USA) any good?

He said Yukon will cost more
