Getting ready to take it off road

I am getting ready to take my '08 Jeep on its first real off road trip. I've been looking it over and noticed that there are no tow hooks on it. But I am looking to buy some and install them before I head out. I am looking for some advice for the rear hook. Should I get a center mount or one that mounts on the side of the frame? Thanks for any advice.

You want your tow points to be mounted to the frame... Other wise you just go ripping parts off your nice new Jeep.... And don't wheel alone... Have fun!

Check out CL and the for sale sections of the various forums. You can usually find take offs for next to nothing and some for nothing. I gave my front hooks away with my front bumper for free.

Just in case - by "CL" Daggo means "craigslist.org", I think.

what she said x2

The OE hooks aren't the best anyhoo; mount them if somebody gives them to you. Recovery lines can slip off a hook too easily or break them, especially in a "snatch" situation; D-rings are safer/better.
Otherwise you can rig up recovery points from Tom Woods or Aberle Offroad's pieces and make them work pretty well with stock bumpers.
If you mount a receiver, there are inserts (Tractor Supply) with D-rings for the rear.

All that said, nothing beats an aftermarket bumper with solid recovery points.
