And for the record...I am the least incapable woman you'll probably ever meet (15 yrs in uniform and yes WITH a gun) and I fought fire as a reserve job, so slow your stereotypical roll okay buddy?

I'm simply new at "Jeeps" and was considering some help from a local pro shop. As with most hobbies...pro shops can really suck, everyone "knows it all" and can run a new person out the door. Men and women. Audible sighing...and treating me like my questions/ possible purchase is "wearing" pisses me off. Thanks for adding to it.

it's actually sad that I trust my own inexperienced mechanical knowledge (humbly speaking) to get the job done and right the first time. ALOT of these shops are just plain rip offs and crooks regardless of your sex.

Still have the gun? If you do, wearing it while working on the jeep is pretty sexy so saith a few board members.

I KNOW I get treated differently - and I don't want nor expect it. In matters of business. I raced cars. I worked on my own. I trained TB race horses for 30 some odd years (and was the only female on the backside of the track for years). I had to fight the powers that be to take auto shop. And I very much dislike it when I get treated differently - and it happens all the time. Car dealers. Neighbors. Some mechanics. Definitely the ones at dealerships. On and on. Thinking females WANT to be treated as the oh poor me - I know nothing about my 3.8L jeep that I work on myself

It happens in camera gear shops. The world in general takes men more seriously than women. I've spent a good part of my life fighting this. I've won many battles, but there are always more on the horizon. Do you have any idea how often I'm told what a nice jeep my husband has?

Yeah - you must be single.

I didn't take it wrong - as a matter of fact, I didn't take it any way - other than wanting to clarify you weren't specifically making that comment about the Full Traction guys - 'cause I've got a great relationship with them - and highly respect their ability and attitude. So - just checking...

lol, Im a long way from single, married over 20 years in fact, with a 26 yr old daughter that also likes girls, so I see everyday how you walk in someplace, low cut tops, or just be a little flirtatious and expect things to go your way, expect guys to drop what their doing and think with the little head and make things better for you, Ive yet to meet a girl who hasnt done that at some point in their life, then you come over all offended when someone treats you like a girl, well, too bad, you earned it.

And for the record, I wasnt talking to you cupcake

Thats very true, this thread is that case in point, her user name gives no indication she is a girl, had this thread been named "rant" and not started off with how her "girl money" wasnt good enough, just related what happened, there would have been maybe 3 replies about how that shop doesnt want business, but when your willing to play the girl card, dont get upset that your treated like a girl.

How did you come to this conclusion? Nowhere in her post did she say she knew nothing about her Jeep or was expecting to be treated differently. She said she was new to owning a Jeep, that's not saying she has no knowledge about it. It was the suspension she was trying to get information about.

I'm also quite sure you don't have a clue what, "most" girls expect.

I'd be interested to know where your at that you see this scenario everyday. That's quite a lot of women needing to manipulate men.

I too have a daughter, 24 and I can honestly say she has never done this.
Not all women need to rely on their sexuality to get something. Many of us are able to rely on our knowledge and are very self sufficient, that's how I raised my daughter.

That's quite an assumption as you've never met her. You have no idea what she has, "earned".

Also, when you post on a public forum you WILL get and should expect multiple responses. The key word being, "public".........Cupcake

My reading comprehension tells me that she was trying to make the point that she believed she was treated differently because of being female. If she hadn't been in a particular shop before, it's understandable how she could think that.

Maybe they do treat all customers like that and if so they will loose quite a bit of business. After the responses you have made in this thread, it's pretty likely you would have treated her the same way. You've given merit to her thinking this, if the employees she encountered think like you do.

I know this is off-topic a bit, but I hate being treated differently because I'm a girl, too. I've been car shopping w/ my husband for a car for ME and all the questions are directed to my husband. I have a degree in metal design and knew more about power tools than my husband when we met because of the woodworking and metal working classes I took (although now he's surpassed me with some knowledge). But there were times I'd get the cold shoulder at home improvement stores when I was looking for something I needed.

Shortly after graduating college, I took a welding class and one of the guys actually asked me, "What's a pretty little thing like you taking a welding class for?" Ugh.

My husband and I went to Blade in Atlanta (huge knife show) and I was looking at kilns used in knife making because I'm interested in getting a kiln for making jewelry, plus I've made a knife before and would like to do it again. As I'm looking around in his booth, one of the salesmen tells me, "You can bake cookies in these, too!" Seriously?

I can honestly say I've never batted my eyes or thrown a little cleavage out to get what I want. Even when I was waiting tables, I kept the flirting to a minimum. I give respect and expect it in return. I think what the OP got was nothing but disrespect and poor customer service, and if it was in fact because she's "just a girl", good on her for leaving and sucks for them and their business.

It happens more than we see or know. Some (maybe most or all) huge car dealerships love it when they see women drive in to the service department. My last three service techs said 90% of them will spend a lot more than the guys who come in because they are clueless and easier to convince...same with sales. Sorry that is how things are. Post up here more, read threads of diff Jeep forums, try a few things yourself, and soon you will know a ton about Jeeps.
