I'm curious if folks generally take off the nuts at the bottom of the door hinges and store them through the summer to make it easier to take the doors off?
Mine have been off since I took the doors off the beginning of last summer. No problems at all. If you keep the doors closed and locked (when they're on) it's impossible to steal the doors without breaking into the Jeep. If they're going to break into your Jeep, 4 nuts aren't even going to slow them down.
My wife wanted me to leave them at home but we settled on them hanging out at the bottom of the center console.
If I am in a wreck so bad the door could come off from the lack of these things I don't think it would really matter. Thieves that want the door can unscrew the hinge screws but then there is the latch to contend with. If the door is unlocked and can be open it will slow them a bit but if they really want the doors then you will be filing a police report and an insurance claim with or without them.
Cool- this is pretty much the response I expected. Last year I left the doors off all summer, but we're selling our commuting car this year and making the jeep a daily driver (no more hiding under a trail cover on rainy days) Definitely going nutless this summer!
Anybody capable of getting your doors off to steal them isn't going to be deterred by a small hex nut. It adds what, like 20 seconds to the process?
