Good deal or not?!

I came across this jeep wrangler unlimited Sahara with tow package (thus from what I understand should have the 3.73 gear in the rear). It is currently priced at 17,900 (canadian) with everything stock except for a set of 33 mud terrains and new rims instead of the stock tires. It has 100000 km's on it and says mostly highway driven. I am curious from those more knowledgable than I if this is a good deal.

that's almost exactly what I have right now....with 49,800miles, auto/3.73, 2 tops, 24G option package, JK though

That's pretty close to local market value here. 2 years ago I gave $21k for it with 15000 miles, private party. Great deal.

I get antsy the higher the mileage goes, yet 'condition' and 'maintenance' and 'how it was treated' means a lot.

The base level JK new sells for only about $4k more.

Tough choice, but I grew up in an era when "100,000" was sort of a magic break point, where rightly or wrongly, it was considered pretty well flailed and ever-more-likely to have Serious Issues Mechanically.

Personally at this point in MY life, I'd stretch a little and go for the 13 model.....

can't really say about yours though.

Pay the mechanic, pay the loan office, what's the difference?

They all eat money and they all give various degrees of pleasure.

Good luck.

#1 if you can stretch for the payments pick up a new JK with the 3.6.

This one is manual, both tops as well.
With regards to a 2013 I'd have to run some numbers but I'm not sure I could swing it (was hoping to pay it off in under 4 years).
I've also heard of ticking issues, and problems with the cylinder heads...which makes me a little weary of the new 3.6.. I could be over thinking the problems though..

I wouldnt think to much into the heads. Was only 2012. Plus u have warranty right? So if there was a problem ya take it to the dealer amd getter fixed up! Hell even if the motor craters at 10,000 km...warranty!

But at the same time u dont wanna stretch urself to thin with payments and not be able to afford going out and enjoying it.

Maybe see if u can find a dealer with a 2012 looking to clear it out and get a sweet deal?

Good luck!!

I did the number crunching and just simply will be stretching myself to thin on a new JK unlimited (I'm living on my own going to grad school). The only way I can get payments in a decent range is extending to 72 months on a new JKU...and I don't want to do that.

Now I've driven a Honda most of my life and so far a 100000 km's is just another number (at least my experiences). What's it like in Jeep land, life of a Jeep etc? It's hard to find people who talk honestly about the problems they have had with their Jeep, be it big or small. Im hoping to keep this Jeep for at least 5 years and I don't see myself putting more than 50k on it in that time, even with it being my DD as well.

My target range for price has been in the 18000 +/- 20000 grand range on the unlimited, in the 08-10' years. The minus the 5 grand after I sell my car brings me under 15k for payments.
I'm also not looking for the rubicon simply because I don't need the extra at this point in my life yet. Am I crazy to be looking at used JKU's only a couple years old?

You my not be crazy, but you will have to WORK to find what your looking for in that price range. If you do find a 08 -10 under 20000 you had better be ready to lay some money down fast! My experience was , for sale one day , sold the next.

Ya I understand having to word to find them. They are out there here in Alberta, just not as common.
Im curious to see if any of the experienced jeepers on here have comments regarding the 100000km/60000mile mark, and problems popping up.

I can't speak for later models( my jk only has 1700 miles) but the tj my son drives is a 98 with 135000 on it and still running strong. He doesn't even need to add oil between scheduled maintenance

Will do, thanks for the info

Rigreker: that's nice to hear that you have personally seen some older models keep ticking on. I'm interested to hear about some other members experiences as well.
