GoPro Mounting location

So I have had my GoPro for awhile now, and every time I use it on the Jeep or the Motorcycle the footage seems boring. I am going wheeling on Sunday, and was curious where others mount there cameras for the best action angles. Will have the hard top, and door on, so roll-bar is a no go.

I've mounted mine all over the place, Windsheild, rear 1/4 panel, hood, door, side window, etc etc...

I use the suction cup, and the goose neck. Also have a few other tools, but seems to get pretty good footage, if I only could sit down and learn how to edit!

I've used the suction cup and various extensions to get the position and angle I want. That suction cup will hang on to a jeep just about anywhere that there is a small flat space (or slightly curved). Just make sure to get the body and suction cup clean.
I've done windshield, front of hood, front quarter panel, rear quarter panel, L & R doors and tail gate.
I keep mine on a suction cup. I attach it to the doors to get short of the tires, on the wincshield, pretty much anywhere with a flat, smooth surface. I will also put it on the display plate it came on (you kept that, right?) and set it on the ground and drive over it. I've also been known to put it on a selfie stick to get some cool shots.

I keep my point and shoot on my Rugged Ridge organizer mount. It shoots out over the hood and I edit the other shots in to mix it up. We use my camcorder to get, "B-roll" that we also edit in.

I've got a Phantom 3 drone now. Can't wait to shoot some Jeep trips this spring.

I use the suction cup as well. That thing is a beast. I just can't find the best location/angle for good action shots. It is an action camera after all... I have a JKU and thought about mounting on the side window of the top to get a long wide angle towards the front, but still not sure how good of a shot that will be. I have put it on the windshield up high, which is boring, and the hood towards the windshield which is meh.

Have you seen the drone that follows you at different angles depending on your settings? That thing looks legit, but expensive. My wife would kill me :happyyes:

Something that works really well with a GoPro is a monopod. I've used mine hanging out the window, extended over the top doing a 360 degree view, hang it over a cliff, raise the camera above the crowd or over the crest of a hill, and even for inside shots of the dash etc.

As far as vehicle mounts, I have a quick disconnect on the inside roll bar lamp, under the windshield rear view mirror, under the front bumper to take suspension shots, and on the top of the front and rear bumpers.

Here is how the front suspension looks, and at the end of the video is an inside shot from the roll bar lamp and from on top of rear bumper...

Rugged Ridge makes a dash multi-mount that replaces the stock dash tray. I only use it for my phone but it does have a camera mount that I assume you could use for a GoPro.

Or just about any camera with a 1/4-20 threaded hole. I can get my Canon camcorder up there but it touched the windshield. But a point and shoot, GoPro or just about any small camera will mount there. Or you can mount your iPhone in the cradle but you'll get some shake on rough terrain. The 1/4-20 mount is rock solid, however.
