Thumbs up Got MyGIG RER: Move your GPS antenna

I've been having lots of trouble with GPS reception. Sometimes not seeing any satellites for up to an hour, taking many many minutes to 'warm up', etc...

So did some research and with the proximity of the compass module directly above the MyGIG, the interference with the GPS is obvious!

So, got a new amplified GPS antenna with very long cable. Mounted it on drivers side (LHS) roof bar - mirrored the Sirius antenna position from RHS. This is on a triangular plate that bolts the roll bars together (unzip padding to reveal).

GPS satellite reception is now fabulous! Even saw 9 (yes NINE!) satellites yesterday.

Well worth investment and time to install.

Will update post with pictures later...

Nice!

Just out of curiousity, how are you able to see how many satellites you are locked onto? I've looked around in the past but have been unable to figure it out.

Do you by chance know if anyone sells the Sirius Radio antenna with a longer cable? I'd love to move that antenna... I have the opposite problem..my GPS seems to work fine, but the Sirius drops out a lot.

When in Nav display. Hit hard key MENU, Then Nav Settings, GPS Info. It will show current location and how many satellites are seen (this is form memory so exact words may be off...).

Sirius Antenna - not sure. Couldn't even think of a better place to put it - it's on the roof bar on RHS. Also - may need Jeep connector since I saw a connector up there (may be for speakers and/or Sirius antenna). I only have Sirius interference when going under a diagonal power line (if the line crosses perpendicular to road then it's not a problem!). Go figure!

Connector?

How did you adapt the Glisson cable to fit the rer radio? I see the antenna comes with four adapters, but none look like the blue connector of the original antenna.
