I don't know about 42" but check out .:: John Dee.com ::. Snow Central for so great online cameras (click on the cams link on the left side). Prior to having kids, we used to head up that way about 3 or 4 times a year to ride snowmobiles. Other than Cooke City, nothing better than a U.P. ride. And the great people in the area made it a toss up.

The JKU is a beast in the snow! after reading all the stuff online about how horribly the wrangler drives on pavement, how the stock MTs on the Rubi's suck in snow, etc. I was prepared for much worse. I guess those people haven't driven many RWD sports cars in the snow, because that's what I've been driving here in Canada for the past decade, and the MT's held up just fine, IMHO. Definitely better then snow tires on the sports cars..

Took it to a big parking lot to practice fish tailing, etc, and yea when you lose traction it's harder to recover due to the weight, but it holds traction well enough I'd only worry on true black ice.

On another note, a TJ flipped down my street today too, hit a patch of black ice and all he had was half bald all seasons. Driver wasn't hurt and although the hard top looked damaged, the jeep itself seemed fine, the "sports cage" was fully intact.

When I was stationed in Memphis in 86, 2" of snow was the best entertainment that I had seen in a while. They got no sanders or salt down there. They used cinders produced at some plant to spread on the road...totally ineffective. It was like bumper cars at six flags. OMG

Lake-fed storm leaving big snow totals in NY, Pa.
(AP) – 3 hours ago
BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — Bands of snow blasting off the Great Lakes buried one western New York town under four feet of snow and caused a pileup that left motorists stranded for hours on a stretch of Interstate 80 in northwestern Pennsylvania.
The lake-effect storms were whipped by gusty winds, closing schools and disrupting travel as far north as the Lake Ontario shore.
In Randolph, N.Y., a rural town 50 miles south of Buffalo, motorists were banned from driving Tuesday after the area received 40 inches officially, with some seeing even more.

The Portland metro area rarely gets actual snow-on-the-city streets....

but there is usually a spell or 2 or 4 each winter where there IS black ice....which is dramatically dangerous without many having a clue until there's a pile backing up the rest of the rush hour palatine behind.

Willamette Valley has great drivers that live back off the main routes in the rural areas. It seems to be the flatlanders that clog up the flow.

It was surprising to be told to 'go home due to weather' at the first 3 snowflakes. Even all those decades ago the crush of the incompetant/ill prepared would turn a 20 minute commute into a 4 hour frozen hellhole.

This is early in the storm.

The street was a mess.

I cleared the snow and parked it at a lot nearby so I could clear the driveway.

^That's when i came back to get it.VV Is some guy that left his there all night

There's a Dodge Ram Van under there.

My GF was 8 miles away and got 3 inches, no camera-person for action shots sorry. Really not much glamorous tbh. I just helped neighbors get unstuck for the most part.

Heap big lake + mighty cold air + move air over lake = BIG STEAM EFFECT + WATER IN SKY = Water Fall Out of Sky in FROZEN STATE = Lake Effect Snow

Effect ends when WATER IN LAKE = ICE = NO MORE EVAPORATION!

It can last for days as long as the wind is in the same direction, the same place gets hammered.
