DIY mesh all the way. There is thread on here with instructions on how to use gutter screens as a mesh backing for the grill. I plasi dipped mine and put them on my self last weekend. Took a few hours but the majority of the time was letting the plasi dip dry. Total cost $39.00 but $13.00 of that was a pair of snips I had to buy to cut the gutter screen to fit.

I will try to post pics later.

Alum radiator screen from Amazon. Works great. Gorilla glue, zip ties and the sticky brackets. took an hour total, after the glue dried.

guys I need help I bought the Rugged Ridge black insert from Amazon I think it was 150.00 for this price the install should be better I spend a hour or more trying to get it to fit properly (what I think is right) then after I thought it was as good as I could get the grill would not fit properly back on the jeep the top brackets are in the way and I hate trying to force or cut parts just to make what something fit that should have been a easy install so I took it all back off. I like the idea of one piece can you guys help tell me what I am doing wrong or recommend a better fitting piece I can just send this one back

Metalcrafters. They cost a little more but they're made in the USA, fit like a glove and if you look around you can sometimes find them on places like Craigslist, brand new, for a lot less than the regular price.

I tried to do it my self used the electrical stuff u by at home depot, then read where they can come undone with water. Yes, I live in s.cali desert but I wash the Jeep a lot. So, I went and bought expensive expoxy that was suppose to dry quick hold up to 2400 lbs and over 1000 degree temp. this stuff was to hold bolts that i bought so i put nut and washer to secure it down. The stuff did dry fast enough tried holding it until it cured but never did. then overnight the stuff wouldnt dry either. so, i ended up spending over 80, just to take back stuff i couldnt use lol. I saving up to get the 100 dollar snap ones for it

Rugged Ridge for $50...very solid, one piece and easy install. Looks very similar to Metalcrafters.

I splurged. Going with a cheap DIY for the front (face) of your Jeep after spending thousands upon thousands on all the other upgrades makes no sense to me...but to each their own I went with Black Diamond Fabrications, stainless steel & powdercoated black. They're actually more of a satin/matte finish and match the bumpers rather than the paint. I get questions & compliments on them all the time, making it worth the $$.

I bought a set of cheap inserts off ebay that looked like the RR ones.Could not get them to snap in and stay for the life of me. Is this a problem with the good ones too ?

Thanks bud, they're sold by northridge 4x4, look for JK 7 Slab Grille.

You have to view these as more than just "something to prevent small objects from flying through the grille." Many of us don't buy the absolute cheapest armor, wheels, lifts, etc. that "do the job." We take style and quality (among other things) into consideration. This is the same thing. This is like "armor" and the quality of the metalwork and powdercoating of these inserts is awesome--they will outlast the Jeep. They become the strongest part of the front grill, all while distinctly changing (enhancing) the appearance. They're a conversation piece. Due to all those factors, to me they were worth the four bills.

These guys make some pretty cool stuff and the quality is top notch, so I'm glad to pay the premium to support their operation of making unique parts for our Jeeps. I picked up some dual Rigid Dually windshield mounts and a 20" LED hood mount from them as well.

I was following a car this morning and the lady threw a cigarette butt out the windows and it looked like it would have flown right in my grille. Glad I did the DIY grille mod this weekend.

Used gutter guard, bedliner and zip ties. I put a dab of gorilla glue under the adhesive tabs. Probably spent about $25.
