Grill Mesh Installed with Matte Black Finish

Finally had time to do a couple mods today. Installed the rr grille mesh thats been sitting around for a while. I didnt like the gloss look that it came with so I decided to Plastidip the mesh and gaive it a matte look.

While I was doing that I also went ahead and blackened the JEEP emblem. I cant believe how easy it was! Spray...wait...spray again for second coat...wait...peel off excess.

I really l ike how the mesh came out. Makes the front look different.

What grill insert is that? Looks like the Rugged Ridge maybe?

I just installed the same grill. Rugged Ridge, needed some minor reshaping to get it to fit perfectly. Also used two zip ties to get it extra tight to grill.

Your right it is the Rugged Ridge. With my personal modifications. I didnt like the glossy black finish it came with.

The install looks easier on paper that it really was. I have to agree with you. I also had to reshape the insert as well as re-positioning it. Had to use some force and tried not to cut my fingers off on the sharp edges lol! Like you did I also put in zip ties. I actually put in four zip ties and mounts towards the center to make sure it keepts tight.

The description on Amazon said Easy installation and No Drilling involved...We we both know thats not true HAHA!

Sometimes you get what you pay for.

But I do like the looks of it after my modifications.

I just clicked that link to Amazon posted by Yankee251, for the Rugged Ridge 11401.31 Gloss Black Mesh Grille Insert Screen for Jeep Wrangler JK $45.16 and this is what it said: This does not fit your 2013 Jeep Wrangler, so, then I checked what would fit, and it says the Rugged Ridge 11401.21 Grille Inserts $67.27 will fit. Price difference sucks.

I could be wrong but I think the 11401.31 is for the Gloss Black Mesh and the 11401.21 is for a Silver Stainless Steel Mesh.

Either way...I got it to work...with a little work.

Ditto on location and looks! I tried to use just the sticky tape with the mounts but that failed almost immediately. I used Loctite for Plastics to get the mounts solid and strong.

Disregard the Amazon fit checker, no changes in grill from 2012 to 2013. I just installed this part in my 2013.

Oh, just got this: Rugged Ridge 11401.31 Product Dimensions 18 x 18 x 6 inches,
Rugged Ridge 11401.21 Product Dimensions 27.5 x 12.5 x 1.8 inches, so... there IS a size difference.

I don't think the zip tie mounts are required because side brackets seem very strong. But for me I like the .75 cent added security.

If the double sided tape that came with the mounts crap out I may do your glue method.

Looks great! The matte finish is nice. I left mine gloss but may matte it down next time grill is off, tho I don't really notice it that much anymore. For 45 bucks, way better than trying the DIY method...seems to hold up better too.

i wouldn't trust dimensions listed on amazon. go to the manufacturer website with model #'s to be sure.

I think they are the same size just different colors. One is Powdercoated and the other is Stainless Steel.

Love this grill insert!

When you say "minor reshaping"...what all did you have to do?

It arrived curled up a bit. Needed to be flattened to fit better. I also had to snip some of the grill so that the brackets fit better. Nothing major. I didn't have to touch the indentations.

Tip: insert the screw for the top of bracket up towards hood so that nut is facing out. If you don't the grill won't fit back as well as it could.

Anybody try this grill with the mopar hood lock? I'm sure there must be some trimming for it to work.

I have seen pics on this forum of members using the Mopar hood lock with grille mesh inserts. Some cut a square out and some cut a small circle.

But I have not seen any with this grill.
